I think after the horrendous Game Boy Advance version of Midway Arcade's Greatest Hits, Midway owes us an arcade collection that's worth the money. Something with a bunch of titles that haven't yet been offered in a collection, like Gorf, and Wizard of Wor.

I've been thinking a lot about how these games would look and play on the Game Boy Advance. I've even made mock screenshots of Gorf, Wizard of Wor, and Omega Race, which you'll find on my web site. I'd like to go even further than that and design the games myself with Dragon BASIC, a programming language for the GBA, but I'm not sure if Dragon BASIC's got the power or I have the skill to do these games justice.

My question is this... is it going to take a hobbyist to port these arcade games to the Game Boy Advance before Midway seriously considers releasing them in a collection? Or will even that not be enough to motivate them?

I haven't yet tried Mame for the GBA. Does anyone know if it's worth using? Perhaps you could play these games that way.

I just picked this up today and...wow. I've gotta agree with Jess on this one. The control scheme for Robotron is nutso, and I'm mortified by what was done in Sinistar...diagonal movement only? I mean, I didn't expect total fidelity to the original, as I know the GBA doesn't have two D-pads, but jeez...y'know, the Apple II only had two fire buttons on a joystick as well, and it made one button vertical firing (up and down simultaneously) and one button horizontal (left and right simultaneously). And they just viciously mauled Joust.

Erk. Not at all what I was expecting. Why didn't they have Digital Eclipse do these ports?

Midway Arcade Collection is indeed one strange unexplainable failure. I mean how bad can you possibly get when the GAMEBOY COLOR version of Joust/Defender is far better than the versions offered on the collection? (and they were just ports!). It's amazing how they let this one go in my mind.. but yeah, much improved versions can be made on the GBA for sure. Look at Elevator Action, Bubble Bobble, the Konami and Namco collections. Now those are arcade classics done right. Strange strange... :hmm:

I think Wizard of Wor is gonna be included in the second volume of Midway Treasures on Gamecube, as well as some obscure gems like Timber and APB. You'll just have to deal with Primal Rage sharing space on the disc too unfortunately. :P

I don't know if Midway owns the rights to it, but I would like to see Major Havoc in a future compilation of some kind.

I have to question why they would even attempt to try to port a game like Robotron to the GBA? Next thing you know they'll be bringing that arcade kayaking game to the home consoles...

Sigh...We got this collection in at work a little while ago and I was thinking of picking it up for only $15 but after thinking about trying to play Robotron 2084 on a Gameboy Advance the thought faded. Then I read on here it's a rather terrible collection port so I'm glad I saved the money.
