With the new release comes some new game additions and fixes as usual, but the largest being the updates to the chd (hard disk) games. ALL will require conversion to the new standard...which I would like to add is a slow, tedious process. I have been converting my "old" chd files to the new standard all night. There is no size difference between the old and new as far as I am seeing, but they must be converted to work with v0.78. A utility named "chdman" is included with the Mame distro to enable you to do this. Here's an example of what needs to be done:

We'll take carnevil.chd for example:

At a command prompt:

chdman -update carnevil.chd carnevil2.chd

The carnevil2.chd file is what will be outputted when completed. When done, delete the old carnevil.chd file and rename the new carnevil2.chd to "carnevil.chd". Repeat this process...over and over...on the rest of your chd files.

Regarding filesizes, some did indeed get smaller. Hiphopmania Complete MIX is lessened by a little over 400MB after the update.

New CHD file standards? Geesh. x_x

I don't even have all the files to Beatmania on ver. 0.77 yet! I better hold off on downloading this for now...

Well, at least they are providing a tool to convert from the old standard to the new. Even if you download older CHD's, you will still be able to update them luckily. They could have gone the other route and have made people re-download all of those 1+GB files...now that would be very bad!
