Can you guys recommend some great Genesis and SNES games? (What I already have is listed at the end of this post.)
Here's my criteria:
1) Fairly easy to find.
2) Preferably games that are considered somewhat hidden treasures.
3) If it's very mainstream and obvious (i.e. Contra, Metroid), don't bother mentioning them because I probably already know about them and just haven't gotten around to buying any yet. :)
4) No sequels to games I already have since I most likely know about them and haven't gotten around to buying them yet.
5) No RPGs. I used to love them, but they no longer interest me (and no, there's no amazing game that's going to "convert" me back, no matter what you may think). ;)
My list of games:
*Genesis*
Streets of Rage [6-Pak]
Revenge of Shinobi [6-Pak]
Golden Axe [6-Pak]
Sonic The Hedgehog [6-Pak]
Super Hang-On [6-Pak]
Columns [6-Pak]
Batman Returns
Ghouls N Ghosts
Rambo III
Greatest Heavyweights Boxing
Herzog Zwei
Castle of Illusion: Starring Mickey Mouse
Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle
Super Thunder Blade
*SNES*
Super Mario World
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Desert Strike
WWF Royal Rumble
Zombies Ate My Neighbors
F-Zero
Flashback
Thanks.

Gunstar Heroes for Genny, and Gaires are 2 of my favorites.
Obviously for SNES are the Donky Kong Countries.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for SNES is a great beat 'em up that is loads of fun.

You can't go wrong with Super Smash TV! Just be sure to get it for the SNES, as the diamond-shaped layout of the SNES pad is more suitable than the Genesis pad for playing it (it originally had 2 joysticks in the arcade, like Robotron). Good luck, you'll need it! (+2 points for those of you who got the joke there).

I second MUSHA, Truxton, Gaiares and Gunstar Heroes. Also check these out:
Genesis:
Mystic Defender (action/platformer)
Valis III (Castlevania-eque platformer)
Splatterhouse 2 (action)
Splatterhouse 3 (beat em up)
Strider (action platormer)
SNES:
Actraiser (part action, part sim)
Run Saber (only Strider-esque game for SNES)
U.N. Squadron (great horizontal shmup)
Gradius III (I don't know if you consider this mainstream or not)
Axelay (fantastic shmup!)

I'm lovin the hell out of Dragon's Fury for the Genny right now. It's a direct (and very good) port of the rare and very sought after TG16 game Devil's Crush! I got it cheeeaaap. It's a pinball game, which I can normally take or leave, but Devil's Crush has a good rep for a reason, and this port still has that 'reason'. It very fun, and hard to stop playing. I think it's reasonably cheap to get for the genny, unlike the TG16 version....

If you liked Herzog on the Genny, give Dune: Battle for Arrakis a try...a superb real-time strategy game. And I always preach the wonders of Zero Tolerance, a huge and well-done Doom-like FPS packed into a standard Genesis cart.
And while it's solidly in the SNES mainstream, you can't go wrong with StarFox if you haven't tried it yet.

If you don't try Landstalker for Genesis, baby Jesus will stomp your ass. Awesome Solstice/Zelda type game. Fairly easy to find, hidden treasure for sure, not mainstream, not a sequel, but it's kinda an action RPG. I still say don't pass it up.

My favorite ever Genesis game is Crusader of Centy (Solstice). If you like Zelda, this gem will be worth playing.
