I just played through Metal Slug X and I am amazed. I never played a game in the series until now and it deffinitely lives up to the hype. It's faced paced fun, quirky and everything is larger than life. its just awesome. I'm really crossing my fingers for a hi-res sprite incarnation on one of the consoles out. I just thought I'd share this with all of you.

You, sir, have a dignified taste in video games. I love Metal Slug. The adventures of the Peregrine Falcon squadron vs. the evil General Morden, and later, the Mars People, make up one of the greatest and most intense action-platforming series ever. My favorite game is MS3, probably because of the multiple paths and the zombies. Stage 2's music is teh rock. :)

Anyway, that's enough from me. You wanna know more, you go here:

I'm sure Dire wouldn't mind if I plugged one of his webpages. ;)

sotenga, thanks for the page :D

Ah, geez... you're too kind. :embarrassed: :D

Really, don't thank me. Thank Dire 51. It's his site after all. I'm just an obsessed fan. ;)

I have actually played Metal Slug 4, and I can say that it kicks much ass. Not as much as 3 did, though. It scrapped the multiple paths and wiggy creatures such as the yetis, zombies, and Mars People. Compared to 3, it's only up to par, and it does not exceed, but it's still a really excellent game.

There are mutiple paths on MS4. There are also Yetis, zombies and mummies and you can turn into a monkey. Maybe you should play it more.

By the way guys, the only ports that do the series complete justice are the PS2 Metal Slug 3 and the Saturn MS1. I recommend buying the originals if you like them that much. Don't forget that these games are pretty new. MS3 was 2001, MS4 was 2002, and MS5 just came out. I hope some more good ports come out soon because I know some of you won't pay $200 for a game, but emulation of brand new games does irk me....

I'm guessing you guys aren't referring to the PSX version of Metal Slug X? Gamestop.com HAD it for $25 just a month or two ago, but it's gone now. However, some Gamestop B&Ms apparently have new copies for $20 (I think there was a limited reprint run for the game). I grabbed it from the website when it was available there (the nearest Gamestop store is like 45 minutes away from me).

Wait, there were indeed multiple paths in MS4... indeed, Hawkmoon. I haven't played that game in ages, so it just slipped my mind. And I'm also against emulation of very recent games, those that still bring in cash at the arcades. Then again, Galaga also still consumes some quarters, as well as Ms. Pac Man... :o

But I'm not interested in looking for roms of Metal Slug 4 or 5, SNK vs. Capcom Chaos, and ESPECIALLY not Samurai Shodown V... why emulate when I can play the real deal? :D

And you're welcome, Dire. I thought it was appropriate for the topic. :)

Yup, Metal Slug f*ckin' rocks. Though I prefer 2 and 4 overall, every last one of'um is grade-A programming beauty. 18 tokens and I beat MS2 (I've NEVER put that many in on a singe game in a single night, and I did it AT LEAST twice that night!).

Indeed it was, Sotenga.

I can't WAIT for the PS2 MS3... gotta grab that the moment it hits.

Whats the status of Slug 3 for PS2? When is it due?

Dire 51

If I remember correctly, either April or May. I know it's supposed to hit after both Gradius V and R-Type Final.

April or May? Holy crap, what's going on? I know for a fact that the game's beeen long finished....I wonder why Sony's been slow to approve it? Demanding 3D backgrounds? Demanding a compilation of all Slugs?

Metal Slug is indeed very awesome. Probably my favorite series besides a bunch of fighters.

Just played Slug 5. Controller wouldn't work for some reason, so I played the first level with teh keyboard. Was pretty damn fun, new enemies, and the new slide technique is pretty useful.

Looks like I might have to get the MVS quicker than I was planning.

MS3 for the PS2 seems to be coming quite fast... as well as Gradius V and R-Type Final, all of which I am quite eager to own. But it reminds me that I still haven't bought Metal Slug X for the PS1... :o

Isn't Metal Slug X and Metal Slug 3 mainly the same game with some minor changes?

The best versions of metal slug are the Saturn and Ps2 versions (MS1 & 3 respectively)? What about the NEO GEO VERSIONS? I don't own em but i have played metal slug and MS 2 for the NEO GEO and thought they were pretty spot on. Can somebody clarify that for me? Happy new year people!

No. Metal Slug X is a fixed and remixed version of MS2, with some bonus features.

The ROM chips contained within the Neo Homecarts are exactly the same chips that are used in the NEO MVS carts. Metal Slug was designed on the NEO GEO, of course the NEO version is the best. I have MS1, and MS3...thinking about grabbing MS4 before its sold out. Don't know if its worth it though, way too much negativity surrounding MS4, but I may break down and get it.

I've had it for a while now on the PS2. It's a pretty spot on port with a few pretty cool extras like a 2 player versus arena where you fight to gain the most weight, and a mode where you play as soldiers going through the alien mothership.

The US version was delayed like hell because of Sony, I am sure...

Thanks Gunstahero for clearing that up for me. I usually refer to any game that comes from the arcade and is placed on a home system as a port no matter what. I understand that some home consoles share the exact (or almost exact) set up as their arcade counterparts but I still consider them ports. No biggie though. I just thought I was going out of my mind for a second! Happy new year people!
