View Full Version : Mario & Luigi SuperStar Saga Possible Spoilers
I just finished the game and I must say this is really a game that didn't get my attention. There were some high points in the game like the sidescrolling old school Mario feel, and the Donkey Kong game pun. But most of the game felt to easy and the controls were to hard to get used to.
What did you guys think?

Maybe the hardest part was the timing in battles. Often I wouldn't get the timing just right and lose precious life points.
I almost finished the game, BTW (only have the final boss to fight), so it's the same as if I've completed it, minus knowing what kind of ending is reserved for the game.
It's a rather short game. Not bad, but I prefer Square's Mario RPG (can't say about Paper Mario, as I haven't played it). And it feels like I've lost some time just switching the bros. around. There are some good ideas, such as the tongue-in-cheek humour over Luigi's lack of recognition and the novel dual brother control scheme, but it does feel a bit simplistic and repetitive at times (go back here, then return there, etc.). And boy is it ever annoying when one of the bros. dies in a fight and you can't revive him right away (either because you're out of 1-up mushroom or because it's the enemy's turn to attack). It's realistic to have the remaining brother strive under the weight of the other, but why not just let him lie on the ground instead?
Anyways, I have mixed feelings about this game. Not bad, but it feels a bit overhyped. Especially when compared to Super Mario RPG.

Loved it, especially as I loved Paper Mario on N64. Short? Took me 20 hours to get through it, including some of the side quests. Plenty of humour, fun to play, you should get enough coins to always have plenty of 1up mushrooms and equipment.

Let's revive this thread!
Here we are, a year later... And I'm closer to finishing this game than when I wrote the above post (contrary to what I wrote last year, I was close to the end, but I still had to fight the Koopalings).
Anyway, I restarted the game from scratch last week. I beat all the Koopalings (the last ones are stressful buggers as you're allowed no more than 8 rounds to kill it; otherwise, a Bomb-omb comes to you and it's game over).
I'm now at the point where I'm battling Farful. I already tried several times but I still haven't beaten him (usually what gets me is when he attacks by dive-attacking Luigi or when he brings out the electric waves with the above-head blockers). I'll eventually get him, but it's not easy!
I find that I like the game better now than I did last year, even though I still think that the whole timing in battle thing is sometimes annoying.

I Loved this game then and love it now, although I HATED the last boss. The timing was way too hard for me to get down.

I'm still stuck on Ludwig. I can't get the timing of that damn shell minigame down! I think I worked on that for like an hour, before just shutting off the SP out of pure frustration. Haven't played it since.
Otherwise, I loved it :D

I bought this game shortly after it came out and have'nt played it once. O_O
Just too much stuff to play -- I imagine I'll get around to it when I go home for the holidays and only have my GBA SP. :D

Im sorry, but Mario and Luigi SuperStar Saga has to be one of the greatest GBA games in existance. To re-create the Super Mario RPG feel without the need of Square is a triumph I think.
Plus for GB Players you get that special rumble feedback feature which is downright awesome...and even throwing in the Mario Bros. 1983 game in again (which Im surprised the cart had enough space for this) was a touch of Nintendo goodness.

I played through the game and loved every minute of it. Other then Castlevania: CoTM, it may be my favorite GBA game. 8-)

That last boss, WoW. The first time I fought him, it took me over 30 minutes of concentration to beat him...then i panicked on th timed escape, died and had to fight him/her over again :bad-words: I think it took me a lttle over 20 minutes the next time x_x Oh the humanity...

I hated it. I forced myself to play it for while, don't even remember how far I got.
I could never figure out where to go next, what to do next, got lost in most dungeons... I could go on and on. And the only games I really PLAY are RPG's
I think I just have issues with portable gaming, I haven't been able to finish anything on the gameboy since I was in high school (ten years or so) I dropp fire emblem, and the second golden sun game too. Just not interesting at all to me.

I HATE RPG's... but yet, and enjoyed and beat this one.
yeah, the last boss was hard, but I found it nowhere near as troublesome as you make it out to be. Took me about 6 tries.

I had a bit of a pain in the ass with it too...got lost more than a few times. They were pretty vague with the what to do nexts. It's a fun game though and I'm good with the timing (though Farfel is BRUTAL!). I liked it....a refreshing change from cookie cutter RPGs! Once you master the combos you're pretty much set too.

I played it, enjoyed it. Not as much as Sword of Mana or FF:Tactics which all came out around the same time I believe. I think I completed it and finished all the side quests in under 20 hours. The final boss was not hard for me because I beat him in 2 trys. You just need good timing. It's all in the wrist.

I still haven't beaten it yet. I'm up to one of the stupid timed Koopa Kids battles. I can never beat it in time. So I've just been leveling up instead. Any tips on what level each brother should be at when you go after the Kids?

Well each one is about 550 Hp (except Wendy is the weakest at 350)
I was about Level 42 when I entered...after the first three (Iggy Morton, and Lemmy) I had to go back...so I would recommend around Level 46

Well, I beat Roy. Now I am on Wendy. Lost the first battle, then decided to take a rest. I'll try again later.
I'm actually on level 41 and 42 respectively.

Whoa. Beat her the second try with 5 timers left. And Luigi was about to die. So, yay. Damn.. one more to go. Not looking forward to the final battle. After this, maybe I'll leave the castle and level up some more.
Edit: And Ludwig is down for the count. Actually, funny he was the easiest. Weird. Well, off I go to level up. Maybe I can beat this before the new year and add it to the "Game you beat this year" thread.
