And I need some suggestions! I've got both my cube and my PS2 hooked up to this beast of a system, and I want to test it... hardcore. I popped in LoTR:TTT for the battle of helms deep, and that rocked me, but I want to see what it can do with some games.

I can just rent whatever you suggest, so anything that would rip the skin off my face?

If you want to here something amazing, play Socom us navy seals with your system. It will blow ya head. Also, check out Ace Combat 4. @_@ @_@

Oh yeah, Ace Combat sounds like a great idea... I'll pick it up at work tomorrow. I should also pickup Silent Hill 3... runner up for best sound effects!

Check out anything with DTS Interactive on the PS2 (if your receiver supports it which most do nowadays). A few EA games do. I know Sled Storm and one of the NHL's does. I think SSX Tricky used it as well.

On a side note, nows the time to get an X-Box. Nearly every game has full 5.1 support unlike the PS2 and certainly not the Cube.

5.1 support doesn't mean anything to me, I don't have any surround inputs, just rca audio :( But that's alright, I can set it to DD Prologic II and it'll psuedo-surround for me ;) I will eventually be getting an Xbox, but not until another price drop at least.

Yeah SOCOM is awesome, along with ace combat, any really loud game, or a first person shooter might be cool.

halo was one of the best games, audio wise that ive heard... of course you dont have a xbox.
max payne has good sound effects, with some really cool phase tricks.

if you want a torture test DVD go rent THE HAUNTING (DTS-ES version).
That has some ridiculous low bass information, and is a weak stereo killer.

Yeah, I only bother with RCA with my consoles, too. GCN won't do surround (not 5.1, anyways), and the PS2 hasn't really impressed me with any game cool enough to invest in the optical I'd need to get that cranking in 5.1.

What I do have it hooked up to is my PC, which is absolutely heaven when playing a FPS on. Just about any FPS - Tron 2.0, Deus Ex, C&C: Renegade, whatever - will rock & roll when the explosions start to get rolling. It's just so much more fun when you can rip out the rocket launcher and make the magic happen, and then it's cool to hear people talking and to turn your view around and listen to the voice move around all 5 speakers.

EDIT: And, it's also pretty cool in Warcraft III when you log in to Battle.net and that huge (well, it's only as big as the screen but it SOUNDS huge!) doorway rolls in from the right and left and then goes BA-BOOM! as it clunks together and you put in your name and password.

As far as movies - the Fellowship of the Ring is pretty cool when you have that Balrog roaring in 5.1. Other than that...I dunno. Run, Lola, Run is pretty thumpin', but...while movies sound a lot better in 5.1, they don't really blow me away like it does when I let out a full salvo with Unreal's "Stick of Six Fires."
