View Full Version : Is Nintendo done with the GameCube?
Before you start ripping on me, this is not another Nintendo is dead topic. I love the GameCube and it is the only system I own besides the Dreamcast. My question is simple. Has Nintendo finished making games for the GameCube? Last year we had Mario Sunshine, Metroid, Animal Crossing, Mario Kart and some other games to look foward to. This new year I have yet to hear of a new Mario, Zelda, Earthbound, Metroid, Animal Crossing, Starfox, Luigi, or any other game that Nintendo will make except for Pokemon. There are two games that still have me on the edge though. Final Fantasy and Harvest Moon (I know Harvest Moon is not a Nintendo Game) are games that have me very excited, but besides that I don't think I've heard of much more.

I'm not sure about Nintendo making games, but god knows that I want a copy of FF Crystal Chronicles.

How about Four Swords/Tetra Trackers? Granted, it's not a new Zelda game per se, but still...

New Mario: Nothing yet
Zelda: Four Swords and Tetra's Trackers
Earthbound: How do you expect to hear of a new one of these? It's been like 7 years!
Metroid: GBA, Metroid Zero Mission
AC: Nothing yet
Starfox: Starfox 2
Luigi: There won't be another
(You didn't put this, but) Donkey Kong: Donkey Konga
There are more games coming, we're just not at the right time of the year. You'll hear of more in May.

Looks like the GC still has plenty of life in it :)

Well, if they are done, they can just wait until after Pikmin 2 is released.

Pikmin 2, Metroid prime 2, and animal crossing 2 have all been in the works for a long time now.
The next zelda game has been in the works as well, but they won't say for what system....

Maybe they're holding out to steal the show at the next E3? And did Nintendo shed any more light on that new hardware/software project that was going to be released in Spring?

I'm glad that there is no 'major' Nintendo Franchise announced this year. As a kid, most of the appeal of Mario, Zelda, etc was in the fact that they come about every few years....not every year. Now, it seems like they released 2 Mario Party's were released in one year (maybe 2 years?) Too many of these major name titles in too close proximity just makes them...'unattractive' to me.
Plus, making a new Mario, Zelda, etc. in one year just makes me feel like the new one is 'rushed' and won't be as good as the previous. Just my 2 cents.

It's pretty well known they've been working on this for a really long time. I've been waiting like a mofo.

Well, yeah, but we haven't heard much about any US releases on anything yet. And that's the second triple post I've seen from Achika. I think something might be wrong...

Earthbound 2 / Mother 3 will likely be released for the Gameboy Advance. At least, that was the buzz when the Mother 1 & 2 combo pack was released a while back. (As I recall, one of the reasons Mother 3 was originally cancelled was because of the development team's lack of experience with 3D.)
By the way, did you know that some of the music meant for use in Mother 3 is still available in some places?

I am really seriously looking forward to Pikmin 2. I also have the Harvest Moon game on preorder. We have to see if FF:CC is any good, too. I already own more GC games than any other, so I won't be disappointed if this is all I buy this year. I know it won't be.

I think they just burned their big game for the year in March and didn't have something they could market for Christmas. Double Dash is good, but not a system seller.

Actually, the prospect of a new Mario Kart game is one of the main things that kept my attention on the Gamecube. My friends and I used to be huge fans of Mario Kart 64 to the point where we were getting bored of the levels, and we were really looking forward to this game. Now that I have it, I've played it to the point where I have perfect scores on all the cups (160 on mirror mode all-cup tour took some work!), and I still very much enjoy the game.
Of course, Mario Kart wasn't the only reason to get the system... but it certainly kept me from buying a PS2 or X-Box.

Try telling the dozens of people I have to say "sorry, sold out" to at my store that Mario Kart isn't a system seller. It's certainly more of a system seller than many (if not all) of Sony/MS's holiday offerings. We can't keep that game in stock.

according to nintendo the N5 will be compatible to GC.Well, that'll be a first. Other than the Game Boy, Nintendo has never made a backwards compatible Console. And it's about time. Not that it matters to a collector like me. I'd still have my actual GCN1. And besides, them telling us there's backwards compatibility tells us right there the N5 will probably once again use a mini-disc format. Bah. You can only fit so much on one of those!
I too am hoping for Donkey Konga to come stateside. I was close to importing, but someone said to wait three months before I go importing it. Here's to hoping for a Nintendo Niche product to put on my shelf!

well, I don't see much lost hope. The Mega Man anniversary collection comes out in Q1 04(Feb. maybe?) but anyways....The Mini DVD holds up to 1.5 GB or so and most games on xbox are 2-3 gb with some of the ridiculous movies taking up very large portions of that, somewhere around a gig. And just because it backwards compatible doesn't mean that it has to stay in mini format. I really don't think they would do that, just because including a DVD player could help them a little and they have a pretty good clamp on hacking and piracy. So far, all attempts to do anything to the cube have ending up not working, or working...like a total heap o' crap if I might say so myself. I'm not sure how "N" is doing it but the price drop is really swinging things around for them, unlike Sega. I think Nintendo has more loyal fans, or it could be a reason. But it just seems like I've seen a really big swing towards the cube since the price drop. In stores, I see parents loading up on gamecube games instead of PS2 and Xbox. and not to turn this into the heated battle of which system or which company will fall first but I think Nintendo is taking according to my books. MS and Sony both have other avenues to hold them up and if you count that out, MS is at the bottom of the heap and Sony doesn't seem to have much movement...
But as far as software goes...I can't wait until Sonic heroes comes out because I loved the speed it showed in the demo's, it's one of the reasons I like sonic. I can't wait to see Mega Man anniversary in action as I'm a big Mega Man fan(pre-N64/PS1) and I really wanted to import Donkey Konga but after viewing all my options, it just didn't seem worth it. I could be wrong on some info, but you had to hassle with loading it...while it's not that big of a deal....but then everything is foreign(menu's and stuff, I believe) and the big killer for me, you can't save with the import version.....atleast that's the way I remember it. So I just hoped really hard for a US release and it's really great to hear that it just might make it. I really think a game that lets you interact with the game, similar to DDR in some ways will be huge for Nintendo and I hope to see more. Like a GCPP(Gamecube Power Pad LOL )

I Absolutely love my GC, but the way it's going here it will be GONE by the end of the year. Nintendo does NO advertising here, the RRP is still too expensive and 1/2 of the stores here "Mysteriously" have had there GC Stock disappear. Most decent games are under $40 now here, so It's affordable at least.
