View Full Version : Most Cost-Effective Way to Play PSX Imports?

My original Playstation broke a few months ago, and since I have a PS2, I stupidly threw the old warhorse out. So now I want to play my imported Nichibutsu Crazy Climber, Gradius Gaiden, and Vib Ribbon, but have no deck to play them.

Should I buy a pre-modded PSX/PS1? I see them advertised used for $59 (plus shipping) from playthegames.com. On the other hand, I could get a used PSX for $30 at Funco and a Playstation X-Change Converter for $18 (plus shipping) at videogamedepot.com. I've read, however, that Vib Ribbon simply does not work with disc-swapping methods of defeating regional lockouts. I could get a Japanese PSX, but I haven't seen those for less than $80. Are there any other possibilities (assuming that I don't want to install a mod chip myself)?

If not, I suppose it would be cheapest to get a straight U.S. system and converter disc, so in that case I was hoping that someone could tell me that I'm wrong about Vib Ribbon.
