Infiltrate the Nazi Stronghold to steal the Top Secret War Plans.
Fight your way thru Nazi Soldiers, Attack Dogs and other strange beast. Stay in a room too long and the dreaded SS will find you. Use the map screen to navigate to new rooms, but beware of patrolling guards. Pick up Treasue and other items in each room. Can you find the War Plans and escape??

It's a hack of Venture! I guess you've missed neotokeo's last 100 posts :)
Pretty humorous, Scott! I was wondering when I saw the link WHICH game you would choose (my first thought was actually Tunnel Runner) and how you'd depict a game like Wolfenstein. I defnitely wouldn't have guessed Venture!

It's too bad the Atari sprites are so limited. Evil Otto would look great with a Hitler moustache.

You don't know how many times I have said that! :)
I am still going to rearrange the map and rooms. For now I used the Venture 2 map.

I make a few copies of all of my hacks. If there is enough demand for a release then I will have 10-20 carts made up. If you can hack there are a few copies up for grabs in the Atariage Contest Forum:
http://atariage.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=40983
I would prefer to do the contest here at Digital Press but you can't attach BIN files to a post. If there is a way I'm missing just let me know.

That's just very cool- taking a 3d game that defined a genre and sticking it on a game system that defined video gaming. I'd definitly be intrested in buying a copy.

You are aware of the games Castle Wolfenstein and Escape from Castle Wolfenstein, right?

I was talking about the ORGINIAL Wolf3d.

Remember, Wolfenstein started out as a top-down 2-D game that re-defined the action-adventure genre before it went on to change the world of 3-D. I'm sure that a good programmer could port the original to the Atari 2600 with only a few changes.

Looks like the same thing was brought up even as I was typing my previous message. LOL

Nice double post. :P
I doubt you'd try anything like the famed Doom project?

What double post?? :hmm: I love the edit option.
Doom? That would require alot of original code and I just don't see how it could be any fun with the Atari 2600 restrictions. If you used the Supercharger I can see that working. Maybe one day while I'm playing thru some games, something will inspire me.

Doom in the way your Wolf3D hack is would loose much its charm likely.
What icons are representing what in your screenshots?

Yea I am also intrested in a copy. Sounds like it would be real cool. I always thought this game would look cool on teh 2600, or the NES would be even better. Nice job again though!

Remember the crappy port of Wolf3D for SNES?
The Nazis spoke English, there were no Nazi symbols, no blood, and the Hitler pictures excluded his mustache. Add cheesy briefing vids, the inability to switch weapons, shoddily designed flame-thrower and rocket launcher, and you've got a winner!

Here are the objects shown in the screen shots. There are many more in the actual game. This is still a work in progress.

In the Map screen:

The guns symbols represent the patrolling guards.

There was a fanmade Doom 2D project for the PC at one point.
(Speaking of which, I wonder how Half Life 2D is coming along?)

Oh, Doom 2D exists. I'm not sure if it still has a website, but it's available at Underdogs still.

HEY HEY HEY! Look at the rooms and overhead map! YOu didn't hack VEnture - but rather Venture II! *My* Venture II!
Now, granted, VII: THe Abyssmal Abyss is a hack itself, so I hold nothing propriatary. But *damn* - how's about at least letting me know what's going on?
Like I said, VII is a hack itself, so I can't really raise any stink about it. BUt Thomas' PAL to NSTC hacks and controller hacks and what HOzer did with them caused a bit of a nasty scuffle. I would've appreciated a "Hey, I'm gonna do this"-type notice.
Or am I out of line and anyone's hacks is fair game for any one else to screw with? I dunno. IT's like hacking someone's homebrew as far as I'm concerned. :(

As I posted earlier in the thread:
"I am still going to rearrange the map and rooms. For now I used the Venture 2 map."
The rooms will be changing before the final version and since you posted the exact same message at AtariAge you know that I am trying to get an actual ending and other improvements put into the game. I would welcome any help you can give in coming up with new rooms, maps or enemies. I don't plan on selling this hack or any of my hacks for a profit, but I would be more then willing to give you credit or send you a cart of the final hack for any help.
