Best way to test scratched CD's?

Recently someone gave me a ton of Playstation games in pretty bad shape.

I wanted to test them and see if they work at all, but playing past the intro movie just doesn't seem like enough, and I don't feel like playing these games for hours just to test if they work properly.

Would extracting an ISO of the disc using a program such as ISOBuster work better?

if Nero 6.X can extract an .NRG of the CD at 1X then it is cool..
