You know, when comes a new year, so do resolutions. Aside from the usual lifestyle resolutions (start to put some money aside, exercise three times a week with hardly no skipping ever, eat better food instead of junk food, etc.), how about gaming resolutions?

Here are mine:

I want to rotate the games I'm playing (one day play the Atari, another the SNES, another the PSOne instead of always playing the GCN, the GBA and the PSOne). Maybe the old draw box with all the game titles in there ought to resolve this problem. This way, I'm more likely to play my StarCraft game than not.

I also want to play through my games. Go through the Baldur's Gate and Final Fantasy series. Finish Zelda: Wind Waker and Mario Sunshine. Go past the evaluation/pratice levels in Rogue Leader and SpyHunter.

My last resolution, although it can still wait a few months, is to acquire a PS2 to play all these PS2 games I own (about 15 of them, and I don't even have FF-X2, GTA3/VC or Kingdom Hearts!). You see, back when I had a videogame column 2 years ago, I had a PS2 on loan from Sony. But the magazine is long gone and the console returned home to Sony.

I want to play more shoot-em-ups. Thanks to fighting games, I've been out of my shmupping groove lately. I'm not as adept at Ikaruga as I was in the past... however, in my recent play of Life Force, I beat it without using the Konami code, so maybe I'm not as out of it as I thought. My resolution will be easily fulfilled, what with Gradius V and R-Type Final coming out this year... also, I'm gonna get serious about obtaining Gradius Gaiden. For me, this is THE year... the year of SHMUPS!!! :rocker:

Heh,
My gaming resolutions are the same every year. Play, beat and review for my website some of the backlog of games I've been meaning to play.

Indiana Jones, Ogre Battle, Sin and Punishment (N64)
Berzerk, Ikaruga, LoK: Soul Reaver, Resident Evil: CV (playing now) (DC)
Ebivision Titles, Save Mary and Shooting Arcade via Cuttle Cart (2600)

Want hold off on gaming deals to save up for a Colecovision, 5200 Redemption controller as well getting sticks refurbed at Best Elelctronics.

Want to finish Animal Crossing Card collection (at least series 2-4)

Others include getting closer to a complete (sans box) First Party Atari 2600 collection (13 carts w/man needed, 14 color manuals needed) without getting into debt :), and playing more games without alienating gf (she's taken to Final Fantasy X though :))

Cheers,
Ben

I resolve to beat yet more RPGs, like Disgaea. I also resolve to attempt to finish Xenosaga.

This past year was my first full year of collecting and i consider it to be my first real year of gaming. My collectio gained around 140 games and its totalled at 234 and have beaten around 20 "beatable" games. I basically just want to continue at the rate i'm going now because i'm really enjoying it.

Buy less and play more. Of course, my buying spree last night didn't help that one. LOL

Open the sealed games I've been meaning to sit down and play, and actually sit down and play them.

Beat Super Mario Bros. for NES. :o

Actually make an effort/force myself to try some of the RPGs I have. :D

i need to make more time for gaming. I picked up hundreds of titles last year (originals) and have not had enough time to dedicate to each one. It is sad. If I win the lottery or something I will quit everything and my job till i die will be to beat every game I own.

THE ONE, THE ONLY- RCM

Aw, nuts, I thought this was going to be a discussion of monitors and scan rates. But yeah, I resolve to keep doing the same thing I've been doing. And I seem to be succeeding so far.

Play more, hang around on the Net doing nothing less.

Get good at DDR. (First step: Figure out how to make my own nonstop mode set list that's nothing but randoms on standard difficulty with no weird options enabled. All I can get it to do is play one random song, then end. Bah.)

Finish some of these damn games! Start really enjoying them like I used to. Finish Saga Frontier finally, at least. I've got the hardest one (Riki's) done already. Boy I wish I hadnt lost the system data with everybody else's done, eheh.

First, I would like to say that I pretty much fulfilled last years resolution of getting a copy of Gilligan's Island for the NES. I managed to get a boxed copy as well. :D That wasn't the only thing on my list, but I pretty much completed it... here it is:

My resolution is to buy most of the games on my To Get List I made up when I started into collecting NES games. I don't buy things off of ebay that much because of the high shipping prices, but I plan to so I can get the games that got me into collecting.
The List:
1943, Adventure Island, Alfred Chicken, Arkanoid, Balloon Fight, Bomberman, Burger Time, Duck Tales, Gilligan's Island, Megaman, Paperboy

Also I would like to start SMS collecting.

I had 57 items on my "To Get List", and now have it down to 25! I also did get into SMS collecting

This year I would like to get more into SMS games... I have 13 games right now... I would like to have about 50 by next year...

Here is the link to last new year's resolutions: http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5920&

I'd have to say that my resolution is also to finish more games - specifically, RPGs. I have a hard time finishing those long-winded Japanese ones, but even the Black Isle ones I have a hard time, too. I was almost done with Torment and I think I screwed something up and didn't have the right item and there was no way for me to go back and get it or something. I've started playing BG2 through with a friend. Anybody up for multiplayer co-op of Icewind Dale? It's much more fun playing it through with someone else, and there's a much higher chance of me finishing it that way.

My gaming resolution for the year? 640x480, with a 16-bit color depth. Of course, that was my gaming resolution for LAST year, too...

finish the stuff I buy
get better at bemani games
get better at using a jostick (The gamepad is a crutch!)
start a room of doom (one day it'll be as good as the ones I've seen here)
start wearing a hat while gaming...yeah this was just one of those "gimmes"

With over 90% of my games still unfinished, I resolve to complete as many as I can.

Alright, I normally don't make resolutions for gaming but my actual gaming time has been declining rapidly over the past two years. Too much time on eBay and working on my column, the Expo, and the website. That equation is gonna change this year.

1. Finish at least one RPG. It has been forever since I've completed one.
2. Play online a LOT. I'm off to a good start, got my PS2 and Xbox all wired up and ready to go and have been getting pummeled in the games of my choice.
3. Open up and try out some of those older titles that have been sitting around here forever sealed! I've got a good start on this as well, and have been trying out some of the 3DO imports I own.

I resolve to try to figure out a way to sell what I have, to pay for what I want, without selling something I still want or finding something I want but can't buy yet. I want my hobby to feed upon itself. (After I'm "done" playing the Atari 2600, sell the console to get an Intellivision and sell the carts to get Intellivision carts. Keep moving up through gaming history selling what I have to buy the next generation of real thing.)

Play the Baldur's Gate Saga (BG, TotSC, BG2 & TToB) from end to end.
Make a Trackball/spinner panel for my MAME cabinet.
Organize my cart/disc/rom collections for easier retrieval and play.
Spend less time making lists about playing games and actually play them.

Non-games related but just as frivolous: Get the the DVD Extended Edition of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy and watch all three movies back to back.

1. Add more domestic and import Dreamcast games to the collection.
2. Keep all next-gen game purchases to $5 or less (probable but not possible).
3. Play more GameCube games. The game is easily neglected.
4. Hit more yard sales, thrifts, and flea markets.
