So, I got the GTA 2-pack for my xbox this christmas and am very much looking forward to playing it but, I have never payed any of the GTA games.

My question is: Does this series need to be played in order to enjoy each one or can I just jump rith in with GTA 3 or Vice City?

If the answer is to jump right in, is GTA 3 worth playing or should I just start with Vice City?

PS: I do have GTA 2 for the playstation but have never gotten around to playing it.

GTA 1 and 2 are top down, 2D versions. GTA3 and GTA:VC use a new, 3D engine. The games are all independent of one another, so play them in any order you like.

GTA3 is set in "modern" times, where GTA:VC is set in the 80's. If you like retro stuff (clothes, cars, and music) then I'd start with Vice City. If modern stuff is more your style, try GTA3. Both games are a blast.

I would play GTA3 before GTA3:VC because VC was made after it, and has a lot of extra features (more weapons, more cars, ability to drive motorcycles, ability to buy buildings, etc..) that GTA3 doesn't.

So GTA3 is easier to start with, and later progress to VC.
