I just bought a Broadband Adapter and a used copy of Phantasy Star Online for Gamecube. Haven't touched either yet, but I've been thinking about giving the game a try. Don't know anything about it though so I've got a few questions:

Can I go online with this copy of PSO if it has already been played online by someone else?

Is there a way to tell if it's been played online by someone else?

Is there a monthly fee for playing?

Is anyone still playing this game online?

If someone's already used the disk to go online, you won't be able to use the same code.. I remember for the DC version, someone said you could call and ask if the code could be reset or if they'd give you a new one?? Not sure how reliable that info is, but worth a try. Really, the only way to tell if someone's already been online w/it is to try it and see if you can get on or not. I don't think there's any other way to check. I believe it's $8 a month to play?
I haven't played online in forever, because I don't have a GC, and I had to return Willie's to him :(

If I have the choice between the GC and Xbox versions of PSO, which should I get?

I dunno, but I'd probably go with the Xbox version. Figure more people play that version online since Live is more popular than that lame network adapter for GC that can only be used for this one game (unless you want to do that hack with Mario Cart). I figure the Xbox version has chat support too...Gamecube I think you can only use a keyboard.

I would agree, but with the ease of modding the Xbox, I'm not sure. I've heard that people have created items that were never in the game.

I know a lot of people have said they're glad they went with the Xbox version because of the voice chat feature.. Saves a lot of time during game play!

Supposedly the serial # checking is not in the GC version. Never tried so can't say.

The GC version has more true PSO fans I'd say, but both the Xbox version and GC version are filled with hacked players/items. The fee per month ($8.95) is almost twice what us JPN player pay. Sega specifically said the US fee was higher b/c they had to deal with a lot more cheaters. The cheaters popped up and they did absolutely fuck all. The game is a waste unless you lock your room and know who you're playing with.

Atleast there's not player killers at the moment. Just every rare in the game overused.

Yes, it is.
