View Full Version : What would you do with an NWC cart?

Keir
10-09-2002, 10:17 AM
All this talk about NWC carts got me thinking. Say you found one at a thrift (use your imagination folks...) or maybe you got it with an insanely low BIN on eBay. What would you do?

I would definitely NOT keep it. I would eBay it as a last resort, but first I would try to make some sort of trade/cash combo, preferably with someone from this board.

I'd probably keep it.

I'd never eBay it. Not my scene. If I decided to get rid of it I'd try trading with somebody here for sure.

It's a good question though. I don't really consider it something I'm after, so if I did come across it I might just parlay it into something else I do want. The more I think about it the more I think I should have answered differently.

well, first i think i'd play it, just to say i did.

then i'd try to get a cash / trade deal out of it, if after awhile i dont get any good offers, it would go to ebay.

I would keep it. But if a day came when I needed some money that would be the first thing to go.

Where's the option for "destroy it live on web cam just to be decadent"?

Seriously, I'd try to get some good trade b/c I'm not a NES collector. Or I might be tempted to do some eBay gouging because I could probably pay off my credit card with what those are going for.

I think everybody should go with the "give it to Dobie" option. But since that isn't one, I'd say "keep it." Its only going to get more valuable over the years. Can anybody say 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle? The NWC cart is THE carts among carts to have for any NES collector, and there are a BUNCH of us out there.

i'd keep it.

10-09-2002, 06:47 PM
i think it really depends when i got it...if i got it now, id most likely sell/trade it for a more complete version of my NES collection...but if it was a year or 2 down the line, where i almost had all the nes stuff anyways, id be tempted to keep it to fill out my collection
just me

I mean, were talkin about a peice of history here! I'd defintantly keep it. i mean, how many were made? i think i heard 26 somewhere...

I would play it for a bit, then sell it on ebay. When it comes down to ONE NES CART, or a 47" Widescreen HDTV it's NOT much of a choice as far as I'm concrened. I will NEVER EVER own a cart worth more than $150-$200 (I own plenty of those, and I feel guilty enough!).

I would create a special holder for it from the same material they make bullet proof glass and put it on display with the rest of my NES games in my future gaming room. I will make sure it will be locked with one of those special keys, and impossible to steal.

The glass will be tinted a bit so the sun will not fade it.

Think of a very expensive baseball card container except made into an NES container/holder.

ehehehe

@Genesisnes: A Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt cartridge is a piece of history!

I'd probably trade it for some other ultra-rare item (for a system I DO collect).

i'd keep it

Mr. NEStalgia
10-10-2002, 05:52 PM
Of course I'd keep it!!!
Being an NES collector primarily, there would be nothing that could make me sell that on eBay.

I would keep it too. I collect rare games. And I have too a NES to play it. :D

You will maybe never get it again, so better keep it as long as you can.

26 gold ones were made...the number for grey cart ones seems to be debated but around what was it, 120? 150?

Li Wang
10-10-2002, 06:51 PM
I'd keep it for awhile but probably end up selling it and using the money to buy other rare NES/Famicom stuff. I know I'm in the minority, but I just don't find the idea of having one NWC, be it gold or grey, better than having a bunch of prototypes and less expensive rare Famicom items.

NESCollector75
10-10-2002, 06:54 PM
The last I heard there is supposed to be 116 NWC carts total. 90 Grey and 26 Gold.

Keir
10-11-2002, 08:26 AM
I'm shocked! Not that so many people would keep it. THAT I understand. Rather, I can't believe that 13 out of the 17 people who voted otherwise would put it on eBay. I wouldn't keep it for the simple reason that I don't collect NES. However, if I had a find like that I would definitely try to get something rare for a system I do collect and make up the difference with cash. I guess I just think about money differently, because if I sold it I would just put the money towards my mortgage instead of just using it to buy more games.

Goblin
10-11-2002, 09:14 PM
I'd sell it on ebay. The amount of cash it would generate could easily cover my collecting expenses for the next few years.

Come on, who voted "Give it away"????

I'd definitely eBay it after playing around with it for a bit...one NWC cart could pay off a whole lot of debt. Figure in the interest I'd otherwise be paying on that debt and the freed up resources every month from fewer/lower payments and that's definitely the way to go.

Hi there.

I'm new here, and haven't quite got the lingo down.

Would anyone be so kind to tell me what a NWC is?

Keir
10-24-2002, 04:10 PM
Someone else could tell you more, but NWC stands for "Nintendo World Championship". There were only a couple hundred carts made and they were used in a competition. A few times a year one will pop up on eBay and is guaranteed to sell for thousands of dollars.

theaveng
10-24-2002, 11:07 PM
If they are worth thousands of dollars, why would you hesitate to sell it? I'd cash it in immediately and pay off my house!!!

i think its truely sad that so many people would sell it.... nes isnt even my primary system, but to have something like that in your possesion is amazing!
if i ever had the chance to buy one of those, and funds were available i most definitely would. and i would cherish it forever! it really is an amazing piece of history, i grew up on nes and i guess thats why a NWC cart would mean so much.

09-07-2004, 02:55 PM
i would keep it in a fire proof safe ... of course i would play it once just to say i played the cart version of it

eBay it like a shot. I have no sentimental attatchment to it or that 'orrible grey box, and it would clear my most of my debts in a second and allow me to purchase lots of nice Sega goodies instead ;)

I'd definitely sell it on Ebay for money to pay the bills and buy more games I'll actually play.

dreamcaster
09-15-2004, 02:38 AM
The logical side of me would sell it in favour of buying games I'd actually want.

The slightly insane side of me would hold onto and treasure and say: "OMG I HAVE THIS - SUCK IT!"

Don't know why, but I have a burning desire to burn one live on the internet

I can just imagine the news reports.

"NWC CART DESTROYED - SUDDEN MASS SUICIDE OF NERDS AROUND THE GLOBE!"

I'd put that baby on eBay the same day. It would make a serious dent in the debt I have. I wouldn't mind working on a complete NES collection some day but I don't really consider it to be part of the library. That's just my opinion though. It would probably be the last thing I try to get. Right after the Sachen games.

09-15-2004, 03:54 AM
if i so happened to run across a gold one, id keep it no question. if it were a grey cart, i would ask a decent sum of money for it, or swap for the three panesians :P

I think it's funny that someone bumped this old thread right now. My answer here kind of negates my answer in the NWC vs. Air Raid thread. heh

If i'd find it in a thrift or not on ebay i would keep it, since i collect nes it's natural that i'd keep it.
Indeed make a nice place for it! :)
That game is cool to play with some friends, play on time trial, cool!

09-15-2004, 12:04 PM
i said keep it, just because i have played the rom version of it and it is very fun and addicting, i wouldn't mind playing this game and having the cart version. i would keep it just to play it.

captain nintendo
09-15-2004, 01:00 PM
I would keep it and play it ;)

But if I ever needed quick cash I would ebay it with a high reserve.

Jasoco
09-15-2004, 09:29 PM
I voted Keep it, but I agree.. If I got to the point I really needed money, I would sell it.

But until then, I would also create a case for it. I collect to show off. I don't like throwing my games in a box. If I had to do that, I think I would rather sell them all. I mean, if I can't show them off, why have them? I imagine a nice glass case with a pedestal and lights.

VG_Maniac
07-29-2005, 02:32 AM
I would keep it and hope the day would never come where I would be forced to sell it due to money problems.

Jumpman Jr.
07-29-2005, 08:56 AM
Very soon, I am going to go and buy a glass display case for all of my grails/semi-grails to display them in. Nothing elaborate..
maybe something like this: http://onsmartpages.com/storefixturesusa/nss-folder/pictures/4-cube-tempered-glass-case.jpg

If I had an NWC, I'd probably put it on the top shelf with some sort of velvet drape underneath it to make it look really cool.
I'd also probably hope that a theif doesn't come into my house and see a freaking museum and take the 'obviously most-expensive thing' in my room.

phreak97
08-01-2005, 09:50 AM
because many of us are hardcore collectors, and something like that will never ever come along again..
i'd definately keep it. if i sold it, i'd regret it forever.

atari_wizard
08-01-2005, 11:10 AM
i would keep it in a fire proof safe ... of course i would play it once just to say i played the cart version of it

is there a rom available?

i would keep it, whether it was the gold or standard cart. it would be the center piece of my collection easily. i too would play it once, then put it behind some kind of glass. i would never think of selling this. if money were tight, i would find other misc. items to throw on "the bay".

DigitalSpace
02-01-2008, 07:00 PM
Bump time.

Gold or silver, I'd keep it. Such a cart would definitely be the centerpiece of my collection. I'd probably play it every now and then too.

kandied91z
03-29-2010, 02:54 AM
something is only worth what another will pay for it. if someone is offering up that type of money take it and i'll make do with the reproduction. It would have to be a significant amount. couple hundred dollars i'd rather keep it.

Parodius Duh!
04-22-2010, 07:53 PM
I would turn around and sell it to a collector.

I would defenitly sell this, and buy a ton of games, and save the rest of the money in the bank or something.

I think I'd give it to my boss to display or use in the store (Next-Level Videogames). I don't really care about collecting or about the money either, but I'd like to see it go to a place where it'd be appreciated and used, and not to some collector hoarder that would go lock it up in a vault because it's "teh rarez".

If I had one, I'd personally love to see it be used in tournaments.

Fatalstar64
04-25-2010, 04:12 PM
I would definitely sell it I'm all about playing the games if something is not that great and has high value why hold onto it? Then buy up several rare SNES games CIB and maybe invest the rest?

I'd list it on eBay with a high BIN or sell it to someone here or on another forum if anyone is interested.

I would not regret it at all. There are so much better things I could get with the money than one cartridge.

Solertia

Honestly, as huge a collecter's piece as it is, I'd probably eBay the hell out of it, and then buy a bunch of stuff I actually want and will use. xD

There was probably a time when I'd keep it, but at this stage in my life I'm more just interested in having a copy of a game I can play, not something collectible. Plus, I'd be worried daily that someone would steal it or that it would get water or fire damage or something like that.

I have no idea how to vote. :(

30 days ago, hell 10 days ago I had a 16K debt but it's gone, other than a few k on a car note I have no debts anymore. I would have put it well towards killing that problem then, but now...hell if I know. Due to what it is and how few, and it not being a licensed game but a competition one I'd be hard pressed not to put it in a nice air tight but openable frame to hang on my wall and fire up on very rare occasion.

Balloon Fight
12-06-2012, 02:33 AM
I'd sell it and buy the repro. Then I'd finish my SNES set off with the money.
