I got Vay for Sega CD off of ebay a while back and it was mint. I've been playing it lately, and I took the game out and noticed it's getting some circular scratches on the game. What would be causing this?

Also, when I put a game in my Sega CD, it makes an awful scratchy-like noise, and I have to keep opening and closing the lid multiple times until it finally stops. I need help correcting this problem too.

(My Sega CD is model 2)

The spindle for the Sega CD is a funny thing, at least mine is. You just set the disc on top and the lid holds it in place when you close the system. So, since it's not snapped in like a PSX or regular CD player the CD can wobble in there at high speeds and skip across the bottom of the drive.

Such as it is I refuse to play anything on my Sega CD other than CD-R copies.

Sure can. Just avoid cheap media as the older laser assembly will have trouble reading it.

that kicks ass... definitely information that's good to know.

and speaking of cheap media... if anyone sees Kingston Hypermedia cd-r's... avoid those things like the plague. i've had more trouble with those cd-r's than any other brand ever... more coasters than i can possibly count. mostly i use Maxell, which seems to work well for whatever i throw at it...

Gee, that's real good to know! I'm gonna have to make backup copies of all my Sega CD games, so I can keep them in mint condition. The problem that I have is I have the first model Sega CD, and sometimes the drawer doesn't want to slide open. So needless to say, I'm terrified of getting one of my games stuck in there, and messing it up trying to get it out. So what other CD systems let you make backup copies like that? I have Saturn, PSX, 3DO, Jaguar CD, and Dreamcast too. I'd love to be able to protect my investment by playing backups instead of the actual disks from now on. I have at least 500 disks total for those six systems, all in mint condition, and alot of them are rare titles now, so I'd like to keep them all in the best condition possible.
