Found a 7800 with 25 games at a thrift this past week. Included Water Ski and Tank Command. Now I only need Mean 18 Ultimate Golf for my first complete collection!
Included with this setup was a large envelope with the instruction books for all of the games...and an old Atari newsletter.
It's called "The A Exchange" ...self described as "A User's Newsletter for All Atari Owners". Dated 9/89. Mostly reviews for games of the time. I love finding things like this...gives a nice "snapshot" of the times. In the back there is a "Marketplace" for buy/sell/trade ads. While reading one of the ads I had a funny feeling it was placed by someone who I would know/know of...

Don't know him personally but recognize his name from this board and RGVC. I was suprised to see that people were actively collecting "way back then". I mean...not just buying every title stumbled upon in the stores, but pursuing unreleased titles and such.
I know of Video Life....and checking the "Rumor Mill" of the DP guide I found info on "McDonalds, Harem, and Super Crush"...but as far as the other games listed, no luck, unless I missed them somewhere else in the guide. Anyone know of those titles? And if Russ read's this...any luck on acquiring any of these items over the years?
Also from the newsletter...I added part of the "Publishers Intro". Funny to see comments and opinions from the past...especially when the are so far off from what was really to come.

Heh...

Don't know him personally but recognize his name from this board and RGVC. I was suprised to see that people were actively collecting "way back then".

I'm one of those guys who never sold off his stuff as a kid, and it was in late high school and throughout college that I started collecting rather than just accumulating.

I mean...not just buying every title stumbled upon in the stores, but pursuing unreleased titles and such.

Oh yeah. I had a big 2600 list WAY back, and then lists for other systems. The DP guide has made them mostly obsolete, but I was a big info hound way back, and tried to find anything I had listed but hadn't seen.

I know of Video Life....and checking the "Rumor Mill" of the DP guide I found info on "McDonalds, Harem, and Super Crush"...but as far as the other games listed, no luck, unless I missed them somewhere else in the guide. Anyone know of those titles?

Well, some of the stuff is hardware, not games. And the other stuff should probably be in the guide somewhere, since I'm pretty sure the Rumor Mill was based off of my list quite a bit. Joe might remember for sure.

And if Russ read's this...any luck on acquiring any of these items over the years?

Well, Custer's Revenge was easy, and though I didn't get a nice Supercharger Demo, I actually did get a prototype of it before the others showed up and got sold.

Also, prototypes for the Mindlink Controller, Kamikaze Saucers and McDonald's have shown up, so that was cool to witness. I know one guy on this board found a PGP-1 somehow, and I know of two others -- the only two I was aware of -- that were sold (one to someone I know, the other possibly to the guy on this board), but I've never found one.

Now, Gamma Attack... that seems to be a game that only I remember... There's a pretty good chance that it doesn't exist, but I added it to my lists since it was advertised (text only, and small print at that). So I doubt that I or anyone else will ever find it, but it belongs in the Rumor Mill if not there already.

Ah well...

Heh, that's pretty funny to see Russ' ad!

This is like the time, a couple of years ago, when I was going through my old issues of The Tomb of Dracula comic book (I have several issues from the French version that was published in Quebec in the 1970s). In each issue by that publisher (not just Dracula but also Marvel and DC superhero series, Archie comics, Dell cartoon comics, etc.), there was a buying/selling ad page. I found one such ad that one of my uncles sent way back when (he must have been about 11 or 12 at the time).

The weird thing is that he happened to be visiting my parents when I found out about this (he rarely visits them), so I showed it to him immediately. Of course, he doesn't remember placing such an ad, but that was definitely him (his address was posted in the ad).

Never heard of "The A Exchange" n/l before. Anyone else have any issues?

Dont know what that means or if it was directed at my post but if you'd rather people not know it was found, then I can surely delete my post. Thanks

Phantomofwdbk isn't one of those AA guys (Tempestcoughcough) that comes to DP just to troll, is he?

Really? I'm a regular poster on AtariAge and I'm on DP almost every day and I don't see any AA members trolling (or doing anything else) here. It doesn't look like Tempest has been here in five years. I wonder why?

Oddly, I see a lot of trolls popping up on AA harrassing Albert, Curt Vendel, Tempest, etc. on a regular basis (even to this day). Strange, isn't it?

If you'd have been here in 02/03, you'd know what he was talking about.

Uh... what? I'm talking about the newsletter that's mentioned in the first post :)

No problem then because I wasnt sure what that meant.

but since someone else has an attitude.

To the boatofcrap
Consider it still missing and no, its not for sale.
And to the troll comment? Troll this!

Looks like someone here has been doing some trolling a lot more recently than 2003. Caught red-handed.

From now on, this thread is going to be exclusively about "The A Exchange" newsletter. I don't want this thread to turn into a DP/AA feud. There is already another thread in Off Topic headed in that direction.

And apparently you're making all kinds of friends at AA too on this same subject.

Just throwing it out there, but maybe it's not DP or AA that has the problem, eh?
