N64 HDTV combatible?

Well,I just read in an older magazine (Big N; from pre-N64 times) that Nintendo has announced that the N64 will be HDTV combatible.
I was getting curious if this is right.
So I searched the net and found these:


The N64 is said to be HDTV compatible, but what does this mean? Certainly, as the N64 currently stands, it could not render images at HDTV resolution (typically either 1600x1200, 1920x1035 or 1920x1152) - there simply isn't enough memory in the machine to do it. This leads me to draw the following conclusion: since the existing N64 hardware cannot output HDTV, it is highly likely that future support will be in the form of an adaptor unit of some kind, which will probably include the replacement of the memory expansion kit in the top of the machine by something with a larger capacity. It would be very nice if such an adaptor would support mid-range resolutions such as SVGA and XGA, combined with the ability to use the console with standard monitors. Whether this will be the case is completely unknown.

All the pages that listed "hdtv compatible" that I found also said it had a modem port in the back and a bunch of other stuff. I think that was all pre-release info. The max resolution on an N64 is (I believe) 640x480 and that's in interlace mode (I think). Since not even all Gamecube game support HDTV (and the ones that do are only doing 480p) it's highly unlikely to see that sort of resolution on an N64.

yeah, meaning that it will work with HDTV's is what i think it means.
basically, almost anything ever made is HDTV compatible.

it might have a resolution of 640x480- but it wont be able to output that without some kind of special vga box or component video output (i *think*).
