Today my friend told me he got a top loading NES for ten dollars and a complete Legend of Zelda for 2 at the Goodwill. I decided to check out what I could find over there. Unfortunately they did not have too much. They had a lot of 32x and Sega CD and CDx games. Unfortunately, my 32x isnt working and I dont have a sega cd, but I got a couple games anyway.
I got:
Tempo (32x)-3 dollars-complete
Monopoly (NES)-2 dollars -everything but instruction booklet

Now my question to you is, do these places get game related items frequently enough to visit there every so often? How often should I check?
Anyway, this was an interesting experience, and hopefully it will end up being a good place to get games in good condition for cheap.

It depends on the traffic in the thrift store. I've noticed that at some, I can go back at the end of the week and the stuff is still there. Then, at others, people buy up all the old games, so you have to pick the stuff up that day. The Goodwills here only sell clothes, so I can't comment directly about that store, but the privately-owned places get jumpin' on Friday afternoons. Go figure.

I've gotten some of my best 2600 rares at Goodwill. I also got alot of NES crap there as well. It's a decent place to pick up loose games IMO, but it can be overpriced or underpriced which is always nice. I only visit Goodwill on Saturdays when they have 50% off everything in the store. Around here it's every other Saturday that they have this deal.

I'd go once a week until you get the feel of the place -- that is, if there was anything there you were interested in. Some places around here will "restock" -- ie: when I bought the bag of misc Atari games the other day, the next day there was another bag of them out.

Around here if you don't go at least once a day , you won't find a thing.
Stuff is bought as soon as it is put out and never lasts more than a few hours.
Florida sucks. LOL

I go everyday except Sunday ( half are closed that and the other half dont put out knew items) , it helps to learn a little bit about the store you are going to.
We have alot here ( I hit 2 big ones daily and twice a week spend the afternoon going to 5-6)
I found that they have cycles, different prices checkers, one guy will think are all games are trash and mark then 50 cents, one his day off, the other guy thinks they are all rare collectables and should be 5.99 each ( regaredless of condition, completness etc.)
Then there is always management and memos from higher ups. If sales are down, they start freaking out and marking things up, if they are full, they start marking things done. There are a ton of fulltime E-bayers here, so in winter when there are no garage sales, they all fight over thrift stores finds and things can really dry up.
Its nice to talk to someone there, always be nice.
My best finds have come from the thrift store. A PS2 withe vice city inside $20 and O2 powerlords for .99.
Sorry so long, thrift store shopping is my favorite topic! :D

That O2 Power Lords find ALONE would have me going back on a daily basis :) Nice one!

Marty's exactly right. Go to enough of these places and you will start to get a feel for them. There's one place in town that has 32x games for $10 and a Genesis for $20. Believe it or not, they've never sold ...
