My NES is dead, please help!

Okay, I was getting the "Blinking white screen o' death" on my NES so I bought and installed a new 72 pin connector and it's still doing the same thing! :( Could anyone point me in the direction of what else it could possibly be?

Did you install the connector correctly? i.e. did you put it in hard enough, and put everything back together afterwards?
Maybe the motherboard just died, and that may be the problem, but most likely your connector is connected wrong.

Are you cleaning the games good ?
If they are not clean it won't help to have a new connector, the games will still blink.

I've repaired so many Nintendo 72 pin connectors and never had a problem until one day I took out a pin connector,fixed it and put it back in..
I fired it up and I got the "Blinking white screen o' Death" ..though the system did work with the regular Blink Syndrome before I repaired the pin connector I was determined to find out what happened..( I was pissed,I can fix the pin connectors with my eyes closed)
I took the pin connector out several times and put it back in and still got the white screen..I even put another one in and still got the white screen...
I figured it was shot,so I put it back together with the repaired pin connector and put it with other systems I need to repair..
I wrote bad on the bottom of it so I didn't mix it up with working NES systems.
About a month later I decide to work on some of this stuff,So I fire that NES and it worked..I was like,What,How!!..I didn't do anything to it..It still works today..
What I think is happening is the bottom part of the pin connectors are not going on straight and sort of shorting out the system,then cooling down....I can't understand why this system started to work again..
Maybe when I put the pin connector back on (didn't test it again)and closed it up before putting it away,figuring it was shot I may have finally got it on right...:o :?

Welcome Laura,

I have 4 toasters and have given up on them. I've cleaned games and replaced pins to no avail. I now emulate NES on my GBA (Gameboy Advance), on my Game Cube with the GBA Player, and am considering XBOX emulation of NES.

Playing Zelda, Megaman, SMB, etc on your GBA is cool beyond words.

I now refurbish connectors, like FABombjoy outlines in that thread. I'm finding a lower fail rate with (1 in 15) refurbishing old pins, than replacing with new pins (1 in 4 fail rate).

I cleaned all of the carts before trying them so I know that isn't the problem. Unless something is messed up with the pin alignment on the connector, I don't see how it could be on wrong because I reinstalled all 4 screws at the back of the cartridge holder which also go through the pin connector and I assume, position it correctly. I'll try to reposition it when I get home as I reassembled it only to the point of sitting the top part of the shielding on; no screws were inserted past there.

I have a GBA. How do you emulate NES games on it?

If you've thoroughly cleaned both the games and the connectors, then try opening the system and blowing the whole thing with compressed air, making sure every connection is good. The best advice I can give is to go after the newer top loading models. They're much more reliable for me, especially after maintaing the same NES for 15 years.
