View Full Version : 5 days in, and I think I’ve already got my find of the year!

Had my first lunchtime thrift run of ’04 today, and what a way to start! Walked into my friendly neighborhood Goodwill and went over to where the video games have been showing up lately (they move every so often). Ignoring the Genesis sports titles that have been there for weeks, I checked out a few NES carts I hadn’t seen before…but all were ultra-commons.

And then my eye caught a lonely little stack of 2600 carts at the end of a lower shelf. I bent down and ticked through Missile Command, Frogger, Space Invaders, a few other commons, and a third-party cart at the bottom of the stack with it’s label hidden. I stuck my finger in the cart opening and pulled it out of the stack. The flash of silver told me it was something better than the rest, but when I saw that red & white checkerboard I knew I’d struck dog food:

Three dents on the front label, but no rips. And aside from an asterisk in blue ink pen on the front label, it was in really good shape. I was stunned. This was almost identical to the way I found my Tooth Protectors cart a few years ago…the major difference being a higher price today (99 cents vs. 79 cents – inflation sucks LOL ). Feels like I’ve already made my best find of the year - but who knows, could be the start of good things to come.

Ralston was behind Chase the Chuck Wagon? Hah! Their main plant is in my city. Doubt that means I'll be finding any CtCW carts soon, though :P

That's awesome, but you know what? Knowing you that won't be your best find this year.

Here we go. $60 and it was like that with hours left to go...no bid sniping! I was betting that I didn't have a chance at winning it since my max bid was $85, and it had been $26.01 just minutes before, then $36.06. Anyhow, it's not every day you pull stuff off eBay for these prices! Just $20 more than my boxed NES was.

I've read that Nintendo didn't develop any games for this system, but Konami created a little shooter compatible with it called Falsion [correct spelling?], which strikes me as a precursor to Axelay.

Since I already seem to be hated for yesterday's find...guess it won't hurt to piss y'all off a little more :). Got this on the way home tonight from a used game store that knows little about rarity pre-SNES (saints be praised!). They apparently just got in a bunch of boxed SMS stuff, and priced it from 14.99 to $7.99. Didn't need any of it and looked at a few loose games next to the boxed ones...sure enough, this big ugly mug was staring up at me through the glass:

5 times more expensive than yesterday's booty...but I'm not complaining ;). Anybody have a nice scan of the box insert so I can box up Buster? If this keeps up, January may be my favorite month of 2004...and that's saying a lot in Wisconsin!

Damn, we're on a roll for January...

Turbo Express, loose but working... for free. I just found out there's a single burnt pixel, took me three hours of play on my third game to find it though (Bomberman '93)

Still, for free... you can't complain.

Alright, I swear this is it...I saw this in the case earlier tonight when I picked up SMS Buster Douglas, but flinched at the $10 price. I don't know my 5200 rarities as well as I should, but fortunately for me, my handy-dandy DP guide was waiting for me when I got home. Seeing the $50/R7 rating, I made a quick trip back to the store after the kids were in bed and made this the final part of my trifecta for the week:

That's it...I'm done!

Final part..? It's only Tuesday! :D

Wow, I almost get the feeling you picked up a bunch of stuff and decided to wait until today to show it. Thanks for showing all this, though...never would've believed it :)

if you sold those 3 carts alone you can help feed a starving 3rd world child for well over a year. better yet, you give me the carts, i'll sell them and we can both consciously save that child together and help them get the medical attention they deserve!

but really dude, you are a dirty summama bitch and i'm heavily jealous :bawling:

Ultra sweet finds, man. Seriously, I am jealous, but Im not going to get mad...nope, because then none of your good luck would be transferred directly to me for absolutely no reason at all! :D :P :) :o :( Man...I want luck like that....... My anger is infuriating me so much that Im not even sure Im making sense...

reminds me of VGD(daryll)......and I think you've still got a ways to go before you meet up with his finds making a little better than 2700% profit  alright......i'm not angry, i just wish I could have luck like this. Best I had was an adventure that ate up 6 months of my life.....but I did come out with 1000% profit...now I know why I can't drive past a goodwill without stopping. If I did that, I would feel so bad by the time I was 2 blocks away, I would turn around. Saves time to just pull in anyways......
