View Full Version : EB Games is a lying sack of s**t! I am so PISSED!!

Ive had TWO bad deals with EB games today! The earlier one I can handle (upping the price of the GBA games on sale)...but this one really pisses me off!
Well, you all know of the trade in ANY (key word in the deal...ANY) 4 non-sports PS2, Xbox, GCN games and get Sonic Heroes FREE!
Well, as usual, I try to find a way to exploit the deal and get something I want for cheap. So this time, I got in there, they have the preowned at buy 2 get 1 free. I pick up Extermination (ps2 - 7.99), Wipeout (ps2 - 8.99), Pryzm (ps2 - 7.99) & New Legends (xbox - 4.99)...total of 21.00 after my 10% off card.
I buy them, leave the store, return 5 mins later and tell him I want to trade them in for Sonic Heroes...he tells me I CAN'T! There excluded from the deal! I try arguing, but its no use, he wont budge...he says i cant trade them in! Even though there not sports games...so I get my money back and leave very very pissed.
Why run a sale when you are going to be a bitch and not follow your own rules?

Ask to talk to the manager. He isnt supposed to refues it, so you should get your game. He was probably pissed that you were just in there buying the games, and then you came back trying to trade them in. He probably has it in for you. ;)
Just ask to talk to the manager next time, and im sure it will be straightened out.

I know the manager there....hes a real prick about this type of shit.
For instance, this morning, I seen a Banjo-Kazooie GBA game on the shelf marked 9.99 (supposed to be 19.99) and I go up there, point it out, and tell him I want it and I want to use the 5.00 off coupon in the sales ad (being 5.00 for the game, duh)...he wont let me! He says he will sell it to me for 9.99 but wont let me use the coupon!
These people don't like me I tell you, they know what I do, they DO have it in for me those sons of bitches

When you're trying to return something you just bought five minutes earlier? I don't blame them really.
Not trying to pass judgement on you as a person, but your actions as described in this case could be construed as...well, underhanded. If I were in the manager's position, I wouldn't be letting anyone do what you tried to do either. Come on, there's a difference between honoring the terms of an announced sale and letting someone pull one over on you.
Then again, I'm an old fart, so maybe I just don't understand these things.

yea in the case where you bought the 4 games and then tried to trade them in 5 minutes later lol i dont blame them, but the GBA game thing, you prolly shoulda been able to get the game..
lol besides probably remembering you just buying them... if they're selling those games that cheap, they're apparently trying to get em the hell out of the store lol since nobody wants them, but a sale is a sale.. you probably should have gotten that, since it does abide by the sale, but if i was the manager i prolly wouldnt have sold it to u either :P u dont have like.. another store selling those games that cheap?.. or like another EB.. if i were u, i'd buy em at one store and take me to the other..
also one last question.. did u take the price tag off the game lol.. if not, that wouldnt be smart :P
anywayz... thats how the world works.. tha man's always tryin to keep up gamers down!

No offense, but it sounds like all they did was stop YOU from screwing THEM. It was stupid of them to offer the deal in the first place, since it was obviously poorly thought out, but I have a hard time feeling sorry for you when you were basically trying to swindle the game out of them for cheap.

Well, you really don't have a right to be too angry, then. Or at the very least, not surprised that the store is going to try to protect itself. It IS in business to make a profit.

I would have to agree that they should really have honored it since they werent too specific (although how do you get specific? put an asterisk that says "as long as you dont screw us over" :o ). But really think... If you were running the store, wouldnt you be a little ticked if someone tried to pull that on you?

Usually on EB flyers it says "some restrictions apply" "see store/sales associate for details" or "ask for list of qualifying games"
I would not be suprised if it said that somewhere. If it sounds to good to be true, then it probably is. If it sounds to good to be true, ask for details.

Dude, that is TOO funny! 5 minutes? You've got to play it cool, and that timeframe ain't the case. I'm surprised the store clerks just didn't tell you to "get the F**K OUT!". I pulled some crap remotely like this when I was around the age of 16 at my local Funcoland. There was some new manager, and he told me to "Get the HELL OUT OF MY STORE!!!". Actually, he was semi-nice at first, but I think I gave him a boat-load of shit about his cleaning kits or some stuff.
Just go to the EB across town tomorrow, and peel the price-tags off first.

Ding! Check that list - I guarentee anything with less than a trade value of $10 is NOT on there. They do the math beforehand, so they don't get screwed (usually). Hence why when KB did it's magic clearance sale, there were very few to no titles that would allow you to get away with trading them in to make profits. (By dropping current tradein values)
And LB is right - think first. Go to another EB near by. Wait until the first store switches shifts. Anything. Thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiink. :)

I'm sure that the EB offer must have had some fine prints, either a "See sales associate for details" and said sales associate has a list of acceptable games for that console, or a specific list of non-acceptable games (ie. no launch titles, no sports games prior to 2003, etc.). Either way, I'm sure it wasn't an all-holds barred deal where just any game ever released for the PS2, Xbox and GameCube would be accepted.
And you really shouldn't try selling back games you bought just 5 minutes earlier, unless you change stores. If you do try, don't be surprised to be turned down; it is, after all, pretty suspicious to their eyes.

01-08-2004, 07:31 AM
More often than not, when stores like EB run that kind of promotion, they exclude any and all titles under $10-$12. It's not good business sense to lose $$ on a new title that has less markup than the used ones. In reality, they want you to trade in 4 more sought-after games. They're smart, and I bet they have an exclusion list with those games right on it.
If I were in the employee's position I would have sone the same thing. You want something cheap? You'd have to go over my head to the higher ups and work to get your cheap game. You can't expect to try and bend a company over and expect them to take it.

What is it with everyone trying to get something for nothing lately, and then getting indignant when it backfires? Do you bitch when they catch you shoplifting too?
If you want to try to exploit the system, fine; but don't get all self-righteous when they don't allow you to get away with it. You KNOW what you're doing is wrong, in spirit if not in actual legality.
as usual, I try to find a way to exploit the deal and get something I want for cheap.

01-08-2004, 10:36 AM
Well guys, everyone has good points. There didn't seem to be any exclusions on this whatsoever because the sign didn't mention anything in the fine print. Also I wasn't dealing with the manager, I was dealing with some part timer. And I took the stickers off the games, well, at least the white labels that say they can be returned within 14 days...I guess I should be lucky that I got my money back at all!
Maybe I was in a hurry, I wanted the game and I wanted it then. I figured I had caught them on a loophole in there sale and I tried to exploit it...but it didn't work. I believe if I had did what someone else said and sent someone else back to trade them in for me I'd have gotten them. Sigh....what a world. I've screwed EB over on there sales so many times before though, none of there sales are thought out...like the times they have coupons in there ads for games that are already on clearance and you either get them for a couple bucks or free altogether.
Yep, still angry that they didn't follow there sale...Being that they said the games were excluded from the trade and not "stop being an ass and get out of my store". I still REFUSE to pay 49.99 for a damn game on a disk that cost 2 bucks to make...no matter how much time and effort was put into developing it. I wind up getting it for 30.00 or less down the line anyways.
Ok, well, now I kinda feel like an ass for trying that, I guess I got what I deserved. :) :embarrassed: :) :embarrassed:

Yeah, I've cooled off. I get all pissed, then I go home and sleep, then im back at work again (now), and I'm fine. Now I have to do 2 things....
1. Find out if it REALLY is ANY game that isn't a sports game.
2. Find games cheap somewhere else.

Let me help you then:
Sonic Chaos on Game Gear. Sucked.

I beg to differ!
Sonic Chaos, while not great, doesn't *suck*. It's easy, and there's not much to it, yes. But for a quick romp through a portable Sonic game, it's just fine to me.
Sonic Spinball sucked. I'm not going to totally disagree with you ;)
Sonic Jam on the Game.Com sucked? Of course it did! In *my* book, everything on the Game.Com sucked.
And, while I may be the only one, I got many many many hours of joy out of Sonic R. Hated it at first, but once I got into playing for a while, I felt completing all the tasks was well worth it.
While I may be a Sonic guy, I'm more than willing to call it fair. Spinball? Crap. Sonic 2 on the Game Gear? Worthless. See, I'm fair ;) Just thought I'd step up to defense on this one. I'm looking forward to Sonic Heroes - I enjoyed both of the Sonic Adventures, so I don't see why I should be led away from this one. Everyone's opinion is going to be different, and everyone's game preferences will be too.
Addition: Sonic 3D Blast was fun too, dammit! :P

Hey! Don't get *me* wrong! I love the Sonic games too, dammit! But I called the "suck" as I saw them. (Hell, I wanted to put SA 1 and 2 on there, but I knew there'd be caterwauling. Why did they suck to me? 'Cause they gave me a near-puking case of vertigo. Whoooooo.... @_@ ) Just making a "don't get your hopes *too* high"-type point, is all.
And we're all agreed then? Spinball and Game.com sucked.

Yeah, hopes-too-high is not good, I agree. With most modern games, I typically have no hopes at all. Actually, I must admit that I'm more interested in this not-so-hyped GBA game Sonic Battle than Sonic Heroes. Sonic characters beating each other up? I'm in!

Sonic Chaos was the shit! How can you say it sucked in good mind? I used to love it, played it all the time. Tails being available for play was a nice touch too. It's nothing to Triple Trouble but it certainly doesn't suck.
I didn't like Spinball on the Genesis, but it was pretty fun on the game gear. I can't defend the other two, cuz I haven't played em, but somehow I think its safe to say Jam blew due to the framerate issue.
Mean Bean Machine was puyo with Scratch and Grounder. Explain to me how you can go wrong with that.

what i hate about the REGULAR sonic games.. not the Spinball.. is when you're playin a regular sonic adventure type game... then u get to a part of the game where you're playing pinball... like... they try to sneak it in.. like your runnin around getting rings and crap and then all of a sudden u like go over a hill or something and fall into a sonic pinball machine.. that really chapped my ass.. also i'm not sure what game this was that i'm talkin about.. its the sonic game that came with my genny when i bought it new at the store..
*tries to remember back to the times when you actually got a game with a console..*
the last console i bought that came with a game was PSX.. and it came with a demo disc.. which i didnt actually realise was a demo diisc until a while after i'd had the game! lmao.. what was coo about it, was the fact that it had a screen.. with like 1 screen shot for everygame that u could play.. and u would navigated around and highlight the game and press x when you wanted to play it *havent gotten to the cool part yet lol* but if u highlighted it and then pressend like.. r1 or r2 or something, it would flip the screen shot around to reveal a 3 button combo that u could press to unlock a secret game or movie.. and u had to press it while the picture was flipping.. kinda cool..
anywayz.. u made me get off topic! its all ur fault.. jk PEACE

Not to butt in and throw more gas on the fire, but isn't the whole point of a board that doesn't purge topics is to allow people to continue old conversations? I mean, why have them there if people shouldn't reply anymore? Would you have prefered him to start a brand new, repetitive topic about EB or just tack on a reply to this one? I'd go with the latter.
But anyway, Sonic Spinball rocks hard. :P

Look at what he said. He was responding with advice on what should have been done, which led to people wondering about paying $30 for a $20 game. Because it's $20 now but it was $50 2 years ago.
And it was a controversial topic 2 years ago , I remember it well. So it should have been left alone IMHO.
And yes start a new topic so the mods can lock it for being another stupid "I hate------(fill in the blank) post.

Either new members start new repetitive topics because of the lack of knowledge of the search function or they say some shit like "yeah i know" or give a response because that makes absolutly no sense because the tread is two years and no longer has any relevence
