The only reason I ask is that the Target near me has 3 copies for $9.99, and I want to add it to my collection. However, IGN.com says you have to have Xbox Live in order to even access the first menu on the game. I will get it if I can play it by myself. I have the DC version, so I know that it isn't very exciting without online capability. However, I don't have Xbox Live, and I don't plan on getting the service.

Also, before anyone asks, I can't pick up a copy for anyone. I'm pretty broke right now. I have college books to buy in a few weeks, so I can't afford it. Matter of fact, I've got stuff in my trade post that I need to get rid of in a few days or it's going to get returned. However, I did acquire copies of Breath of Fire V: Dragon Quarter for PS2 and Mace Griffin for Xbox that I will add to my trade list tonight...

Yes it can be played just fine off-line. The wife and I play it quite a bit, and for 9.99 its a hell of a deal, plus you can still get the free two months of play if you have xbox live. I am up to level 31 after losing my level 65 charecter when my xbox died this summer (before I learned how to fix xboxes)

It is in fact playable, but you must have Xbox Live to play it offline. If you have no intent on signing up for it, I'd pass on the game. Especially if your funds are tight. That game will be available later on for close to the same price.
