I need a little help. Some of you know, but most of you don't that I would like to open a game store in the near future. I have some ideas for a name, but I want to come to the experts.

What would you call the place? Keep in mind I do like the words "video game" in the title.

thanks and only reply if I have permission to use the name, I'm not saying I will use one here, but it could happen. I have a list of names that my family thought up and I will be posting after I hear from some of you. If I do use your name, I will give you a nice Perks package.

Every Time You Buy a Crappy Liscenced Game, a Hollywood Sleazebag Gets Taken Out to Lunch (tm).

Seriously though, what kind of store is it going to be? Just games for newer systems, like most stores, or retro stuff too?

"A Man, A Plan, A Canal, Panama"

"Funcoland"

"GAME STORE"

"G4M3Z 4 L3SS! OMG WTF!!!1"

"Games"

"Power Player"

"Dave Game Shoppe"

"Video Game Haven"

I'll think of some more generic-sounding names later.

This just popped into my head:

"Game-Mecha". Says what you do and wins brownie points with the post 9/11 Sensitivity Police.

My royalty rate is usually 5% of your gross, but I'll cut you a deal 8-)

I like the idea of using terms from video games, like "1-Up" or "Secret Level". You could also use a silly name like "Video Game-o-rama" or "Gameatorium" or something like that.

Here in Winnipeg, there is actually a place called Video Game Heaven... aside from the fact that it's a hole in the wall, it's actually pretty decent. Carries a decent amount of old stuff too.

Hmm...video game terms that aren't too obscure for the normal populace...Though you could always call it "Cigal" or "Feelasleep" and just tell people it's a nonsense word. :)

How about "Bonus Stage"?

My favorie arcade was named this. I think it'd be perfect for a videogame store. Simple too.

"Beepz"

Written in some futuristic computer font, it just SCREAMS gaming goodness.

I'd name my store what I named my web-site:
Game-Rave: Between Virtual and Reality

You could always name it...

- Dumpster Divers, Inc
- Next of Kin Video Games
- Game Go (We're a hell of alot better than game stop!)
- Bonus Game! Video Games
- Video Game Harvest: You Reap the Games!
- Just Video Games
- Console Domination
- We're Better than Game Dude LOL

Atari 2600
Atari 5200
Atari 7800
NES
SMS
Colecovision
Intellivision
Odyssey 2
Channel F
Astrocade

And to an extent, the Commodore 64 and the Genesis.

Oh, I thought this topic is about what I would call a game store that already exists near me. I was going to describe my local used games shop as "Surly and Tempermental Middle-Eastern Men Sell Poor-Condition, Overpriced, Re-Shrinkwrapped Items to the Unsuspecting Populace USA". God, I'm spiteful. ;)

So far, the greatest hits from the rude guys who run the aforementioned shop are:

*after giving my friend an incompatible answering machine adapter for his Genesis*: "I SELL THIS MACHINES! I KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!"

*in mid-purchase* "The Genesis 1 DOESN'T WORK WITH THE SEGA-CD!!"

.. after I calmly explained his errors in both cases, he just gave me a blank stare and wandered off like he had more important things to do than admit that he was wrong.

This wonderful man also prices games as follows:
"If it's a Sports game, is bad. Is $2.99."
"If is game that was popular, is $9.99."
"Huh? AfterBurner II is $24.99!" (out of box, no manual, label fubar)
"Virtua Racing is not sport game!! It was good!!"

And last but not least, with bulging forehead veins:
"GENESIS IS 20 YEAR OLD."

They keep all items of disinterest (poor-condition Genesis/NES games) out in the middle of the store. The items of interest (classic game systems, rare controllers and accessories, freakish pirate cartridges, Atari 2600s and ColecoVision units, etc.) in the corner and gets angry if you come near them.

Why can't I live near ONE GOOD GAME STORE?!! WHY??

THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE INPUT EVERYONE. keep the ideas coming.

Ok, my first game store name was VIDEO GAME CONNECTION , but the old stores I used to manage went through a renaming process and I mentioned it to the owners one day and they stole that idea and called their stores that.....so....that doesn't work.

A few that are on the top of the list I had were also mentioned here, my second choice has been

Video Game Kingdom.....(aka Mushroom Kingdom)
Gaming / Gamers Paradise
Game Gods
Video Game Gods
Video Game Geeks
Gaming Geeks
Gamers
Video Game Heaven ( been used a few times)

NOW some of the ones I like that people haev mentioned

Game Arena
Bonus Stage ( some people won't get it though)
Just Video Games
Game-Mecha
Classic Corner ( really like it, but doesn't specify video games)
We Got Game (nice, but soemthing similar in the are already)

MINE was RANCOR GAMES, then we would mount a big Rancor on the roof that works like a mechanical T-Rex adn every hour it drops its hand and smashes whatever car is parked underneath it

How about "The Warp Zone" or "Warp Zone Video Games"?

If you're serious about doing this, you better really look into if any of those names are trademarked or not. Then, you need to make sure that your name won't be confused with another.

A local area arcade decided they were going to become "The Fun Zone!" but Discovery Zone sued them and won, forcing them to change their name. Especially just starting a new business, you don't want to be stuck with having to change your name.

And I'd suggest the GOAT Store, LLC but I guess that is already taken ;)

Good luck!

RIGHT, there is a similarity clause. Like I can't call my store Games R' Us or Better Buy, that just doesn't work.

there is a game store in our area called Take 2 , same as take 2 the cheap psx game developer, they were in a suit for almost 5 years ( I know the owner) and they did lose to the software company, now they lost the suit, but are not required to change their name becasue the product is different, ex. Software developer / used game and computer store

so, I'll get it checked out before I fill in the paperwork, thats why I don't want something that sounds liek another store already.

I like the idea of naming the store similar to video game quotes or phrases.

"World 9"

Or, you could name it something video gamey goofy like "Thumb Calice Palace".
