I'm updating the "announced, but never released" list at Japanese Gaming (yes, announced but not released in Japan).

Anyways, there's some obscure publishers on this list. I'll post more as I find them, but for now, if any of these sounds ring a bell, let me know. Remember, I'm going from Kataka, so these could be WAY off.

Should Weeb (this just doesn't sound right). They were apparently developing Pop 'n' Land and Presence Nostalgia 2 for the MD.

Toreco - making a game called Vazam (or something like it) for the MD.

Bisco -- World Ralley for the MD

Bisco -- World Ralley for the MD

Bisco...sounds like VISCO! :O I've seen a number of their games in MAME.

Common, Portnoyd, I need a "BING!" for that one ;)

I have no idea on the others.

Yeaup, the old B vs. V problem... could very well be right.

The list is pretty cool if you're into this kind of stuff. After seeing the sheer numbers of it, you have to figure there have got to be some protos running around.

Here's some for the PSX I never knew were announced:
Psychic Killer Taromaru!
Onimusha
D&D Collection
Enemy Zero

Strange, no?

This Nomeaz1 is an alright fellow. The copy of Undead Line I got had a bunch of stuff inside...from the top down, a registration card, a manual (fits the inside of the plastic tray perfectly, you almost have to hold the box upside down to get everything out), a large Undead Line sticker, and...

T&ESOFT WORLD. It's a catalog of their stuff, all released as far as I can tell, but let's see. I see Psy-o-blade (huh! Didn't realize T&E made it), Hydlide stuff, and some more. A shooter game called Super Laydock ("Movie Space Shooting Game"), Laydock 2 - Last Attack, their game DAIVA (Space Simulation War Game), Poxel 3 (a graphic editor for the MSX2), and some random crazy pics in the back (the background from Psy-o-blade with the text "Do Computerize!. Do Enjoy!! [sic]" in there.

What happened to T&E soft anyhow?

So yeah, nothing unreleased there as far as I can tell, unfortunately.

I also got ahold of a ton of Shining Force guides, including all guides for the Saturn games (1, 2, 3 is clearly visible on the spines, so I'm assuming they go to each Scenario), not to mention three games of that series. More, too.

I think that's
"Should Wave" or something. They also were going to release PC Cocoron on the Turbo Duo (it was actually 100% complete) but didn't.

I'd bet that Capcom's Dungeons and Dragons Collection existed in playable form, as screenshots of the PSX port were shown in a few magazines (including Gamefan) back in 1996. Both the Saturn and PSX versions were reportedly canceled at some point, though work resumed on the Saturn edition a while later.

This seems as good a time as any to mention my holy grail of unreleased games: an early PSX overhead shooter known as Bounty Arms. It was dropped in 1995 after getting no real publicity. I wonder how the game might have turned out, since it was created by Data West, of RayXamber notoriety.

By the way, you have Contra listed with the unreleased Saturn games. Are you referring to the second PSX game, called C: The Contra Adventure? I'm pretty sure that the first, Contra: Legacy of War, came out for the Saturn, at least in America.

Maybe they drowned in a sea of their own golf games...

Funny, I don't see any listed here :) In any case I've become quite interested in them recently.

This talk of Contra also reminds me that I've heard of Metroid II DX and a Contra Spirits 64.

One would assume a lot of those games were in playable form. (sigh)

You own this, or are looking for it? I think just about any unreleased shooter is worth gold...even if it was for the Playstation.

I'm not really sure. This is taken from a list that someone compiled on the internet (actually, a few lists). The list that's already posted on Japanese Gaming is old, although I doubt the Saturn part has changed much since I first posted it (2 years ago). If you wanta sneakpeak, here's the updated one:
http://dynamic5.gamespy.com/~japangaming/unreleased.cgi?system=saturn

On that list, there's also a game called "Legacy of War" that was gonig to be released by BMG Victor (who released quite a few US-developed games) so I'm pretty sure the Contra on the Saturn page refers to something else.

FYI: I'll have more systems this next time around. ;)

I'm judging by the smile that you're being cute. For those who don't know, most of their product for the past decade has been golf games (like Pebble Beach Golf Links).

Searching on Google, it seems they may still be around:

They even made a deal with Disney back in 2001:

Actually, I don't see a single golf game *in this catalog insert from 1989,* heh! Yeah, I'm amazed how they went from good stuff to...all this junk. They could use a new Undead Line, 'cuz Neo Contra ain't the same thing.

I wish I owned it, but much like the Holy Grail of legend, it'll probably never be mine. I'd like to ask Data West about it (they're still around, in some capacity), but I doubt that my meager Japanese skills would get me very far. Perhaps someone snagged an early version of Bounty Arms back in 1995. Is there any sort of proto collecting scene in Japan?

This is Neo Geo related, and not even necessarily Japanese, but I thought this link could be dropped in here:

Sounds like it's related to Treco here in the US...
