Hey there all... this has been done before, but there are been some new releases announced in the past few weeks, so I wanted to make sure I had them all documented.
I'm trying to make sure I have a list of all the "traditional" Dreamcast shooters a.k.a. "Shumps" that feature gameplay on a 2-D plane, graphically composed with either sprites (like Gunbird 2) or polygons (like Zero Gunner 2). I'm also looking for Space Harrier-type games that limit your field of movement.
Here's what I've come up with...
U.S.A. Releases
Bangai-O!
Giga Wing
Giga Wing 2
Gunbird 2
Mars Matrix
Japanese Releases
Border Down
Ikaruga
Psyvariar 2: The Will to Fabricate
Rainbow Cotton
Rez
Shikigami no Shiro 2
Twinkle Star Sprites
Zero Gunner 2
I've left off the "classic" games like Defender, and I'm also leaving out these genres:
3-D shooters with full 3-D movement (AeroWings)
Gun shooters (House of the Dead 2)
First-person shooters (Quake III)
Third-Person Shooters (Charge & Blast, Fur Fighters)
Mech games (Gundam Side Story 0079)
Have I missed out on any, fellow gamers? HELP! :D

Shikigami no Shiro II in March!!! Yea!!!! Where are you guys getting your copies?? The SE is the one for me and I am debating between www.playasia.com and www.liksang.com
any thoughts?
Plus, I would almost consider Cannon Spike/Gun Spike a shooter.
Yes cannonspike/gunspike has very similiar gameplay to zero gunner 2.
I would class it as a shmup any day.

FYI the British company Rage(RIP) made Expendable.

Expendable was considered, and it most certainly is a shooter, but not in the traditional mode as defined by the parameters. In Expendable, you have basic freedom of movement, even if it is in a defined path. You can double back, roam around in areana-type levels, and take a breather if you have cleared out all the enemies in a particular stretch.
Thanks for the input, though!

After playing a few rounds of Cannon Spike, I would certainly term it a SHOOTER, but not a SHUMP. It's certainly got a lot of firepower and shooting action, but it appears to all be arena-based... Zero Gunner 2 fits the "traditional" mode of a scrolling here-it-is-in-your-face either duck or get killed shump whereas Cannon Spike seems more like the 3-D PSX Contra games... are later levels like a "traditional" shooter where you move on a scrolling background with enemies shooting at you in patterns and then (possibly) passing you by? Think R-Type... Xevious... Radiant Silvergun.

good god
I remember this one (my friend used to import it.....he regreted it)
Surely the worst (3D)shooter ever
graphics were N64 standarts(at least they were running at 60fps) and gameplay just plain horrible
hell ,even my "star X" for GBA plays better

Yeah, I've heard this game is pretty sucky... something about your character going back to the center of the screen if you let go, and that fact that your character is so big that she blocks many of the incoming shots and enemies. I want to try it, anyway. I love the Megadrive game.
