She's still on DP Survivor Island, for those of you wondering where she is and too busy to check in on the players (in fact, she just won an immunity challenge which means she will be in the final THREE), but in the meantime I thought I'd present her big site update, something she's been working on for quite some time.

If you like the varied content of Digital Press, you'll enjoy this too.

Achika's got the wild things figures too :)

AND a few noticable Hello Kitty items (including a little Landry the raccoon peeking behind the tv). The Hello Kitty with the lei actually dances the hula to music I believe.
SEE guys! Sanrio is COOL. No more laughing!

Oh man so much false info!!!

While the Commodore 64 wasn't so popular in the United State, Europeans adopted it quickly and is especially popular in Germany.

Whatever Achika.. it was the most popular computer in the US in the 80's if not ever. I understand not knowing the 80's and all being so young but talk to the experts for gods sake instead of webpublishing false info.

Also the "Sample RF adapter" you have for the C64 is a RF from a Nintendo 8 bit, the C64 looks like an atari 2600 swtich box but says "TV - Computer" not "TV - Game"

Calm down.. Calm down... *huff huff* 1-2-3-4-5...

At least she was partly right. If I'm not mistaken, C64 software was still being commercially made well into the 90's in Europe, long after most North American gamers had moved onto bigger and... well bigger things.
:)

I remember seeing games for the '64 for sale in stores when I was in Europe from '88 to '93.

You could still buy C64 games at Target up until the 486 was out.. around 1991. The I remember Wing Commander came out and poof! only c64 software you could get was $1 business software on the bottom rack.

Yeah, I found a couple of small things too... Like the Dina being under Sears (confusion over "Telegames" vs "Tele-Games")...

I think maybe she just got her emphasis wrong possibly... Think about it this way... In the US, consoles were more popular than computers; in Europe it was the other way around. If you picture most families being able to only buy one or the other, then per family the C64 certainly wasn't as popular here as there, even though within just families who purchased computers the C64 probably fared equally well in both places.

You might also say that there wasn't as big a "buzz" over the C64 here, which explains why there are STILL retro coders and people writing TCP/IP stacks for their C64s there while PCs rule here.

The C64 was definitely a huge hit in the US... it just got overtaken in the minds of the American public a lot sooner than it did over here. Come 1987 when the NES was becoming extremely popular and the Amiga had been released, the C64 started to fade out. It is very difficult to find much American produced software post 89! There are a few titles I can think of, but not many.

Not so in Europe. Despite the Amiga, Atari ST, NES, SMS, and even the Megadrive (Genesis) and SNES, the C64 kept rolling on with top quality games and a cheap selling price. Nevermind the failed experiment that was the C64GS... this machine became the biggest selling computer ever and the commercial software industry kept going with it until 1994. Funnily enough, just as the Playstation came out and started to take over the world...

A few off details, but other than that, the site looks great!

Not sure where everyone lives, but I bought my first C64 in '88 when it was still huge in popularity. I bought *multiple* games after '89 here in the US. Test Drive 2, Grand Prix Circuit (ahh.. Accolade games). I bought my first 1581 drive in '90, my first HD for it in '92 (CMD 20 megger). Admittely, after '91/92 it got more difficult. Luckily I ran a BBS for multiple "importing" groups from 1992-1994.. and most of my C64 software (about 500-800 disks, not sure the exact number) are post 1990.

Ok, I'm back and I can 'answer' a few things. Thanks everyone, I appreciate the feedback.

Perhaps I should explain the premise I wrote the Commodore article under. I never claimed to be a commodore expert (far from it truely, but it is one of the systems/computers I own), but I did consult magazines, books, other web articles (some of the books are what people here mention too) In recent years, I believe Commodore is still strong in Europe (yes I KNOW there are die hard fans here) but, when pulling up C= stuff on Ebay or Google, most sites are Euro sites. That's the premise I wrote the article under. Slapdash pretty much hit the nail on the head..it was overshadowed here (IMO) by things like the NES, etc.

I know the 'rf' isn't the 'correct' RF, that's why it says sample. When I hooked my C64 up to my TV, I used that just fine.
