I have a brand new Namco museum CD for my PS1 and I can't get it to let me play the games. It loads, I can go into games and pick a game which then loads but when I press start to play, it goes back to the main menu. Is this most likely a software problem? I only have 1 other game for it, Atari Anniversary Edition and it seems to work fine....HELP!
Thanks,
Laura

Sounds like a screwed game disc.
Although - are you trying to play it on a PlayStation 2? There are a select few PS1 games which will not work/not work properly on a PS2. Namco Museum could be one of them.
Anyone else care to shed some light?

No, I'm playing it on a PS1. If it is a screwed disc, does anyone know if you can you take them back? I got it at Target....

It sounds like a screwed disc to me.
It happens from time to time (and more often than you would think). Just take it back with your receipt. They should let you exchange it for the same title.

is it a PS1 or a PSone? (the original version or the smaller version)
Look on the bottom of your Playstation and tell us the model #.
I dont know about returning an open game to walmart, even if it is new. They will give you a hardtime for sure, since software piracy is SOOOO common now. But if the game REALLY doesnt work, then tell them to pop it into a demo unit and test it. if the game works at the store, well then you know that your PS is messed up.
Know anyone else who has a PS? test on on another system before you go back to the store.

I don't know anyone right off-hand who has a PS but I'll see if I can find anyone. Good idea!

This may sound crazy but,Look in the manual..maybe your supposed to press the x or circle to start a game..or do something else.
You just may be pressing the start button on the wrong directory within the game and are being sent back to main menu..
Otherwise place your PS on it's side or upside down and try to play the game..(I'm serious)

If you press "O" at the memory card screen, then it takes you back to the menu. But that doesn't sound like your problem. (You press "X" to proceed--it brings up this screen if you don't have a "registered" memory card in the slot.)

No lies: Turn your psone upside down and then turn it on, with the game in it of course.
Happy gaming!

not trying to bash, but this is what I just don't get about sony. We'll see how xbox and the cube do in a few years. But it just seems to me that sony has an awful lot of disc reading problems. and shouldn't they be the specialists.....they have all sorts of laser required equipment on the market. And, take what these guys have said to heart....beat the thing if you have to......try upside down or angles first though :D
