Good games only come every few years, like super mario bros 3, metal gear solid, goldeneye, zelda OOT.
But it seems to me, for every good game, theres a bad one just itching to get out. And all be it, there not BAD games, but they just can't live up to there predicessor, a few examples...
FF7 >> FF8
Metal Gear Solid >> Metal Gear Solid 2 (whoeve okay'd the blondge guy should be shot, killed, and raped.)
Zelda OOT >> Zelda MM
Donkey Kong Country 2 >> DKC3
So in the words of sienfield, whats the deal with that!

As long as people still buy bad games...companies will still make bad games.

It's not easy to make "good" games... sometimes, it just sort of happens. It's not like Rare planned to make DKC3 suck or something.
And frankly, I'd say for every good game, there's more like 10-20 bad games out there. Damn shovelware.

FF7 was a masterpiece, Ill agree...but that doesnt make FF8 any less great. As a matter of fact I loved it just as much as 7 if not more
Same with MGS2, but one thing I hate is when people belittle such a GREAT game because they didn't keep Snake in it. Every time some whiny bitch on a message board says "OMG teH Mgs2 sU><or3d! No S. Sn@ke!!1!" it pisses me off beyond reason, enjoy the game, not the character.
Zelda, MM, never played
DKC 3 was just as good, if not better than DKC 2, the whole series was excellent.
ANyways, thats my 2 cents

I dont think there are alot of bad games, just a ton of mediocre titles. Bad games are absolute crap like Athena and Friday the 13th for the NES or Power Moves for the SNES. I honestly havent played absolute clunkers like those in years.

Agreed. Yes not many liked Raiden, but it just made Snake's return that much more badass. Still one of my fave ps2 games.

As far as MGS2 goes, I can't comment so much as I haven't actually played the game yet (waiting for ps2 version of substance to drop :D ), but what I DO know is, while the first MGS was certainly fun, the MAIN reason I enjoyed it was for the conspiracy/twist riddled storyline and the excellent characterization and dialogue. From what I hear, they botched the hell out of that in MGS2. If that's true, Snake or no Snake, I'm not going to like the game.
I hated DKC2 and DKC3. Loved the first one though.
I thought FF8 was MUCH better than FF7, and the FFs prior to seven were much better than eight.
As far as good game coming ever few years.....are you out fo your flippin' mind? I have so many good games right now that I don't have time to play, and so many more that I want to buy!
Top-of-the-line games that came out last year ALONE: Viewtiful Joe, Mario Kart Double Dash, Beyond Good and Evil, Prince of Persia, Disgaea, and I'm certain there are TONS more. That's just off the top of my head.

Yeah, good games are coming out like crazy...sadly there quickly overshadowed by the newest incarnation of Madden or any other sports game, or some blood thirsty killing game.
right now at home to play I have Sonic Heroes, I-Ninja, Beyond Good and Evil...and theres still TONS of really really good games out now that I want to get or have at home that I've completed. Just learn to stop listening to media hype and what your friends say (cept us here at the DP boards).
Anyways, back to the MGS2 thing. Only complaint I have about it was the crazy confusing non-sensical story. Other than that, A+!

i think games either are good are bad depending what other games come out before or after them!
It's all down to personal choice.
I hate 'fps', so a game like 'Goldeneye or 'Quake' I think is totally rubbish. I also hate most USA sports games, anything with NFL, NHL, NBA, HBC, NHT or whatever I don't even look at because I know they are shit. I also hate Japanese RPG, but I love USA RPG, to me they are the best. I adore Japanese platformers, and I think most European platform games are really bad (just look at the Brit crap from the 80s.). To each his own, as the Chinese saying goes......

As long as a few great games come out every year, I'm good, don't care about the rest.
Last year Samurai Shodown 5 and Crimson Skies was all it took to make it a good year.

Castlevania: Lament of Innocence, Wario Ware Inc., Viewtiful Joe... all made in 2003. They still make good games, just not as often as they used to. I'm more partial to classic gaming than modern, but there are many games from the new millenium that I think are quality titles.

Have you ever played Majora's mask? I thought OOT was a better game until I went back to play it after I beat Majora's mask. I felt Majora's mask to be a superior game because there are more abilities for Link to use. For some reason I enjoyed Metal gear sold 2 more then the original. I thought the acting in the first was terrible and Snake was a total dork. The story in MGS2 seemed copied from the Matrix and the blonded guy was gay but I enjoyed the clearer graphics and better controls.

I think that Majora's Mask is a far inferior game to OOT largely because of the first half-hour of the game. You pretty much have to have a strategy guide / FAQ alongside (or you have to play through it MULTIPLE times) to get to the point where the game becomes somewhat "forgiving." Unless you know exactly where everything is, you will most likely not make it through those first three days.
After that it becomes a decent game, but it's far from being any OOT.
And on-topic - maybe if game programmers / designers / artists got compensated decently for their work, they might produce better work and more of it. From what I hear people stay in from their mid-20s to early 30s, then get out because they're getting paid crap wages for long hours. If we had more experienced people working in the industry, we might have better-quality gamez.

Why can't there be more good games?
Because every time someone masturbates, God makes a bad game.

I've always considered Superman 64 as evidence that God doesn't exist... I mean, what God would allow that?!?
