this is a bizarre little peripheral. It came out in 1994 and works with several game systems of that time (I hooked it up to my Genesis) or with your stereo or VCR.
It's basically a vibrating backpack. It actually is worn like a backpack, has a speaker in it and vibrates to the sounds of the game. You can adjust the amount of vibration.
On the Genesis 1 it plugs into the headphone jack on the front.
I tried it out with Gunstar Heroes and it seems like the effect is achieved by the speaker vibrating. It's pretty lame and I can't imagine it sold well.
I picked it up out of curiosity, thankfully it was quite cheap.
Is anyone familiar with this thing?

They didn't sell well at all. AFAIK they used to retail in the $100's so it wasn't practical for average gamer to get it. Plus as you mentioned, it's kind of lame.
One of my local Meijer still had around 50 unsold Interactor up until last Spring. The final price was $2 each (yes, two dollars) and they finally dumped it in the trash capacitor.
One use with the Interactor, along with the Activator (the oddball controller where you use your body as the controller) and an adult themed game would get you closest to a virtual sex experience.

Hmmmm.
I saw some Aura Interacts at a local surplus, sealed in box. I saw an Activator at a local pawn.

I bought one yesterday. It did not have instructions. I want to know how many parts are with it since, in case mine is missing any.

I heard a rumor that faulty ones could cause electrocution... any truth to that?

I think i have one of these somewhere I got for about $2 at a flea market...I remember thinking when they were released how stupid it was to have speakers hit you and vibrate while you play. I mean, you might as well rig a dildo to your stereo...

Alright, well I picked up one of these at Goodwill today, and in my excitement I didn't even check the box. Doesn't appear to have come with the power pack. Anybody have an idea on what kind of power supply this thing might need? I know it sucks, but I'd at least like to get it working.

Unfortunately it seems that the power supply is pretty specific for the Interactor with an input into the system like I've never seen on another systems power supply. On the label it says:
Model No:I-143-BX002
Input AC-120V 60Hz 35W
Output: AAC11.5Vx2 1.25A
The input into the system has 3 prongs in a circular casing.

I do remember seeing ads for it years ago. Wasn't it advertized along the lines of "feel every puch and laser blast"?
I never figured it would work quite like that since the games and systems of that time had no way of telling it what was going on.

That would be a center tapped 23V AC power supply. It shouldn't be too hard to find something that'll work. I'll hunt arround.

Yeah, looking at the input, I was afraid that it might be something pretty rare... Thanks for that info, though! The DP forums are awesome: probably the only place I could revive a post about a failed gaming peripherral, and get a response within 24 hours.

A quick google search turned up these surplus sites but it looks like it'd run you about $40 with them. Searching the page for I-143-BX002 should help find them.

You could probally build one for about $10 but if you don't know what your doing it could ruin your hardware.

Ebay sells the Interactor all the time for between 10-20 bucks. If you HAD to have one that worked, you might just want to buy another one.

Yeah, it does look like I'd end up just buying the thing again. Thanks for all the info, fellas!
I probably won't get another one... ah well, lesson learned.

It's pretty useless. Only game I ever had fun using it with was Teleroboxer on Virtual Boy.
