View Full Version : Confusion on Mega Man Games -- and my geeky gaming list!

I know we talked about this before, but I can't find the information.
If I recall correcly, Capcom is working on TWO Mega Man collections -- one that will have all of the NES and SNES games, and the other that will have all of the GBA games. The former is called Mega Man Anniversary Collection, due out for the GC on March 9th, while the later has a name I can't find and is due out for the GBA also in March.
Is this correct? Which games are susposed to be in each collection? Are they straight ports or will they be enhanced in some way?
Also, I was going through and picking out the games I plan to pay full price for in the next two months:
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles (GC) -- 2/9
Metroid: Zero Mission (GBA) -- 2/9
Romance of the Three Kingdoms IX (PS2) - 2/24
Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes (GC) - 3/4
Harvest Moon (GC) - 3/4
Gradius V (PS2) - 4/4
For a 'dead' system I'm sure buying a lot of Game Cube games! ;)
Although my tastes are so unique I doubt anyone will get half the games I plan on.....
Thanks in advance for the help.

I thought the Mega Man collection was due out for PS2 as well.

Ah, you must mean Mega Man Mania, which will feature both the original, unaltered Mega Man I - V games and updated versions.

There was talk of this before, and Capcom is colorizing the Gameboy versions for the remake... other than that, I don't know about any enhancements.
Personally, I think it would be a better idea to release the NES versions on the GBA rather than the original Gameboy versions... the Gameboy versions were sort of a hodge-podge of the NES versions anyways.

Okay, so let me see if I have this straight -- there's Mega Man Anniversary Collection, due out for the GC and PS2 (Of COURSE I'll get the GC vesion ;) ) that has Mega Man 1-8 from the NES, SNES, and PSX?
And then there's Mega Man Mania, due out around the same time for the GBA, with remakes of Mega Man 1-5 from the Game Boy?

Bingo. Only, you're missing two arcade games for the anniversary edition that were previously only seen in Japan.

Correct, but not totally true.
Mega Man 2 The Power Fighters was released on CPS2 in the US. Not many of them out there, I don't see that many of them for sale, and I don't have one yet.

Okay, 10 games all on one disc? Now if only we had the MegaMan X games included in that. :D
Still it sounds like it's worth picking up. I'll add them both to my list.
Gee, that makes FOUR Game Cube games I plan to buy in the next two months -- as many as the GBA and PS2 combined. LOL
I'll support my GC to the grave.....

Yep. The two bonus games with Anniversary collection are Mega Man Power Battles 1 and 2, the first home ports of the arcade games ever. That pretty much covers it!

Ah, but you forget the NGPC version. (I've heard it wasn't a terribly good port, but it's a port nonetheless.)

"The Megaman Anniversary Collection, set to be released for the Gamecube and PS2 this spring, is going to contain bonus content exclusive to each version released, according to The Magic Box.
This means that the Gamecube version will include an interview with Inafune and a "History Mode", while the PS2 version is said to include 30 minutes of extra anime. However, it's not clear whether the "anime" will be exclusive footage of the old Megaman TV series, or the more recent NT Warrior. Either way, completests will probably want to own both the PS2 and Gamecube versions of the collection."
...I'll still get the gamecube version most likely.
That info was grabbed from Megaman Network, an excellent Megaman Fan Site, probably the best one there is:

...Ya know, they really should include some content of Megaman from the Captain N cartoon show, just for laughs. "Mega Hi!" hahahhaaha.

Damn. The Gamecube controller is just really not made for that game. I remember playing Megaman & Bass on the gb player with it, and accidentally dying from the control pad being too damn small.

The Hori SNES-style controller is your friend. It's all I use for the Game Boy Player. I hope that it will work with Mega Man Collection.

Rockman Battle and Fighters isn't a port of the Power Battles games as far as I know.
@ Oobgarm...I have that pad too. Great little pad....but I wish it was a BIT larger and thinner!

I NEED ONE OF THOSE!!!
I gave up trying to play games with the D-pad. Sonic The Hedgehog actually plays pretty decent with the control stick.
I'm getting the Mega Man Collection as my next purchase... which will make it the third Gamecube game I own that is a retro collection (with the Zelda and Sonic collections). The Gamecube is awesome because of this, hopefully they release more collection discs.

I can vouch for the HORI pad. I was stuck on the last level of Sonic Advance using my Game Boy Player and a standard Gamecube controller. As soon as I got my HORI pad, BAM, beat it on my first try.

Rockman battle & fighters contains both Power battle games. My biggest complain with the ngpc version is the lack of music compared to the arcade games. There are only about 11 tunes combined for both games (including stage select, etc), the arcade had lots more and even used the Ghost 'n goblins tune ocationally when you battled shademan. Oh and the scroll point is a bit close to the edge of the screen. And I wish it would reset you score when you choose continue.
