The basic what he's getting at is that soon all new games will be distributed online, with no physical medium for games and no distribution middlemen (and no collecting), perhaps the way music is headed. Just an idea anyway, one that I dont particularly like. And all the replies towards the idea has been negative.

What's that smell? Could it be...INFINUM LABS?
(actually, I don't think they're smart enough to pay off journalists, so this guy may ACTUALLY be an idiot)

His vision of the future sucks since I vowed never to pay another online gaming service after Sega Net went belly-up. Well, there'll just be more used games for me while everybody else is downloading Madden 200X...

*sigh*... I sure hope this doesn't happen. I still miss the days when games were packaged like this (http://www.armchairarcade.com/aamain/article.php?20.6).
I certainly don't like the idea of paying for a game, and only getting data on a hard drive. Hell, buying games on CD/DVD's even feels a little empty to me.

That scared the holy beejesus out of me. The thing is, I think it could seriously become that type of market. If it does, I will not buy any console past the point at which that kind of utter crap is required. I would still have to have a pc though, and the non-upgradability would be hell. Deal between Microsoft and hardware manufacturers to produce more sales?
Maybe I'll get a mac.

You know, I almost think we had a discussion about this once.. I'll see if I can find it, because, interestingly enough, I believe most of the replies to THAT were negative, too. People just don't like the idea of paying for something and having nothing physical to show for it.

Well, 1st off, if games were only on a hdd and now cds / dvds i would not be buying them.
2nd, what happens if that is how the market goes and your hdd dies...did you just lose all you games....that would suck.
lets hope this whole download games thing ties just like i hope infinum labs dies

I am already dissapointed at where the market is going, but it is not fantasy to think that someday this will be tried. I hate the idea and I will not support it...sigh...is there any hope for the future of games or are they gonna screw it up???????

Well, keep in mind that the general population of the Digital Press forums can't really be considered "normal" in this situation. We're collectors, and we want something we can collect. Most "normal" people don't give a crap, and are more than happy to sell their games for 1/10th what they previously paid so they can get the latest Madden game.

I think it may have been when we were talking about the Phantom awhile back.
