well in response to that EB find of an NES prototype. Great find, but that also means someone traded that in. So who's man enough to admit they traded in a valuable game at funcoland as a kid??

My worst was SNES Actraiser2

I traded in Castlevania Chronicles for the Playstation awhile ago. I think I got 7 or 8 bucks for it, and now it's worth about $35 to $40 on eBay. :(

I have never traded in a game for store credit or cash before. I have also never sold a game on eBay. I have returned 3 games that I didnt like in order to get new games. When I was younger I returned metroid for GB because I couldnt get the hang of it...dont know why....and i dont know what i got instead..but oh well...I also bought System Shock 2 for the PC but returned it for Half-Life. I didnt even burn a copy of it..thats how much i disliked it. I also returned Def Jam Vendetta at eb for a sealed copy of it (said it was defective) for the GC because it sucked..then i returned the sealed copy at walmart and i got credit and my mom bought the card of me, so i basically got my money back.

Before I found the online collecting community, I walked around with a Funco price sheet in my wallet and hit the local Blockbusters that were selling off their NES rentals for $6.99 a pop. I'd snap up any that were worth something and trade 'em in for credit at Funco. I seem to recall getting roughly $35 in credit for such titles as Dragon Warrior III & IV, and Bubble Bobble 2. Bought and traded multiple copies of those games and others, which helped to finance much of my NES, Genesis and SegaCD collections. Fortunately I kept all of the boxes and paperwork for those games and found them at much lower prices years later. :D

Already?! I bought that new when it came out, and I was working at an EB, and thought "Now this will be worth something, eventually." And threw it on the stack, and haven't touched it since.

Jesus that was fast.

But on topic, TJ&E. Why was I so stupid! My original one too.

Complete copies of Ogre Battle 64 and Harvest moon 64 to start up my SNES collection. Bought new cords and EarthBound cart only with a damn sticker on the back, all for 40-50 bucks or so, and I think I still had to pay for some of it myself...

Probably FF3 on SNES... traded it in a couple months before Anthology came out and got $35 or so. I still have the box/paperwork so I can just go snag a loose copy for $25 or so if I ever feel like it.

One I can't go and get a loose one of is Breath of Fire II for SNES, did the same thing Goodwill Hunter did. Picked it up for a few bucks at a Mammoth and sold it at Funco.

I've also never traded in a game to these gamestores before but I know the feeling of selling off rare items before they became really valuable (IE most of my sealed Nes games and snes rpgs)...ouch on the harvest moon bighab! hehe

Well I wouldnt exactly call this real bad, but I traded my complete mint condition copy of Street fighter Collection at EB. It now cost good money to buy it back. Thats if you can find it. -_-

Lets see, through the years, ive sold to fucoland: all 4 nes dragon warrior games, final fantasy legend 1-3 (back when they were worth a ton,) and chrono trigger (twice, bought it, sold it, then wanted it back a few years later, then had to sell it again to get a new ps1 when mine broke.)

A few years ago before I was eBay-savy, I took in a complete (maps and all) Final Fantasy for NES to trade. The guy behind the counter practically refused it, telling me to get off my ass and sell it online. Thank god for that guy, I've sold so much shit on eBay now, all thanks to his advice.

I traded my complete (box, manual, map/poster, everything) Secret of Mana (snes) to a friend for a huge stack of "buy one get one free" Subway coupons back in the mid-90's. Once I started collecting, I really started to miss that game. I would really like to play it again, but I'm holding out for a 'wild' find to avoid the ultra-high ebay pricing. The kicker is, I didn't even use the majority of those damn coupons.

I've traded in Intelligent Qube. TWICE. @_@ Bought it new when it first came out (and no one had heard of it yet), played it, got bored with it, traded it in for - I dunno - the original Clock Tower for PSX as I recall. A few weeks later, thought "Wow. I really liked that IQ game," went to the used game store, found it on the shelf, and bought it. Eventually, of course, I traded it in again in a fit of idiocy. THe game went up to insane prices shortly afterwards. :(

Too many to list.

@Goodwill Hunter- It's funny you mention that, since I did the same thing. We had a customer who got me interested in it, as he would bring in stacks of the high $$ SNES and Genny games he got from local BBVs and Hollywood Videos. I don't remember trading in anything I terribly regret, luckily.

Since I've been a Funcoland crone for the past 5 years, the trading in-bug had ahold of me until about a year and a half ago. "As long as I kept the money in the hobby", I thought, never once considering that I was getting the shaft in most cases. I've traded in a lot of R6-R7 PSX games that I wish I'd kept, since I ended up paying good money/spending lots of time hunting to get them back.

Highest rarities I've sold/traded?

A disc only Dragon Ball GT Final Bout for PSX - Traded in 1999 to Funco for Dreamcast games. Think I got like $120 for it.

Loose Tengen Tetris - traded to a guy at a flea for a few hard to find NES games plus $75. I think I made out good on that one. ;)

I used to trade in ALL of my games... god damn, I was stupid back then. The most valuable game that I traded in, personally, was Super ario RPG for the SNES. I think I got $15 credit for it which I used toward a Game Gear. That was my first true RPG... I missed it so. Once I became a full-fledged collector and got a SNES, I immeadiately went to eBay and BIN'd one for $30 and the guide for $15. No, I did not use the guide. But it also has sentimental value.

All may not be lost Sniderman .. I saw a PAL copy of Clock Tower for for £102 on ebay UK recently ... so don't trade that one in just yet, it may be valuable yet! :)

I've done nothing so foolish personally, although I know a guy who sold Panzer Dragoon Saga for about $30 'back in the day'.

Admittedly, he wasn't to know - but still. Heh.

It's one of the reasons I never sell/trade in anything.

This is actually the reason I collect in the first place. Way back in the misty depths of my past (I'm from the mountains, it's misty there!) I had bought an SNES while I was in high school. One of the only games I managed to be able to afford for it new was Final Fantasy 3, which I played heavily, and beat multiple times (maybe 3 or 4). Anyway, I got bored with playing it and wanted new games, so I decided I'd sell my FF3 and use the money to buy a new game. Well...I went in to the local mom & pop store and sold my FF3, boxed complete. This was in 1995 when there was high demand for it. Within a week, I'd gotten the sudden urge to pop it in again and none of my other games was as appealing. I went back to the store that I sold it to and they said "Oh, it sold yesterday!". So I was FF3-less, the game was gone from store shelves, and I was sad. I learned my lesson that day...never again have I traded a game away that I liked playing, valuable or not. That's the only valuable game I've ever traded in that wasn't a spare copy. And the reason I started collecting games.

Like someone above...I also Traded in a MINT FF1 complete for NES. Bought it at the flea market for 1.00 back in the day...and took it up there, the woman behind the counter said "hell, im keeping this one for myself"...and I got 10.00 for it.

I've got a twist on the topic...

Believe it or not, I had the opportunity to BUY a Nintendo World Championship cart from Funcoland for either $80 or $90. I forget the exact amount. This was right after PowerFest had left Milwaukee. I decided to pass it up because that was a lot of money, and I wanted to spend in on some more complete games that would give me more play value. I went back to the store about a week later with the intention of buying it, because I had been thinking that it would be pretty cool to own that, and it was gone. Oh well, I guarantee that I would have sold it off anyway... long before I knew it was worth a thousand.

I've had several complete ones since then. Still have a NM complete one for me :) But my ORIGINAL is gone. It took me 2 years back then (pre-eBay) to find another copy under $60 used (which I was unwilling to pay).

Oh...and since when is Actraiser 2 rare/valuable??

That's what I was wondering. The local Gamestop has about four of them, including the one I traded to them almost a year ago.

I have never sold a game to Eb or game stop. Reason? When I was a little tyke back in the Nes days, my parents refused to let me do this. They thought it was stupid to pay $40 for a game and then return in within a year. I am happy they did this. I still have all my original games. :)

I traded away complete, one-owner (moi) copies of Megaman 1, 2, 3 and 5 so I could maintain a somewhat steady rate of new games coming in. At least they were good ones like Kirby and Gargoyle's Quest II, but they'd invariably get recirculated by the end of the year.

One of the big reasons why I'm into collecting today is that I can afford to keep everything now. :)

no I never said that Actraiser2 war rare or valuable, but it was a great game and holds the most street value of any of my trade ins. I probably traded in about 20 snes games back in the day and thank god I didnt make any huge mistakes (like my Square collection).
