Can you use a mouse to control MAME lightgun games?

I'm wondering how to setup Mame so I can control the lightgun game crosshairs with my mouse. Is it possible? I clicked on "enable mouse input", which I assumed would allow this, but it doesn't seem to work that way.

Can anyone clear this up for me?

Enabling mouse input works on this end. Try Chiller, see if you get the crosshair when you boot it up with mouse enabled.

If you're using teh DOS version (like all good people) the command is "-mouse"

Have you tried turning off joystick support as well?

This is strange. The mouse is now controlling the crosshairs, but only in the X axis. Y is nonexistant.

Why would that be?
