Do you keep extra copies of games in your collection. Everything or just the best? Mint copies plus one for playing?

I am gettung rid of alot of stuff and my husband and I are debating what to keep and what to get rid of. Currently we are looking at keeping 2 of everything but that adds up pretty quickly.

What do you do?

I dont save boxes or instructions except for a few systems.

I would just keep one copy of each. Especially since you only keep carts. If you had boxes and such that would be different, but if you just have carts, just keep one

For my personal collection, just one of each. If I come across another I usually examine which is in better condition and keep that one.

However...

I pick up "deals" whenever and whereever, all the time. It has gotten where my trade box is now in fact eight boxes, but at least I always have something good to trade or give away as prizes here!

The doubles are getting out of hand here. If I find next-gen stuff for extremely cheap prices, I buy multiple copies, but since I don't have the luxury of a house for storing my trade items, I wish they would go. It seems everyone on this site is looking to trade old and/or rare items, not new stuff which is what I enjoy.

Of course, I also have doubles of certain Dreamcast items that will never end up on the trade list because I want to have one in case something happens to the opened copies I play now. Those shall remain nameless...

Speaking of trades, what boxes haven't you thrown away, Marty? I might be able to save them from the trash! BTW, I need a Dreamcast box and carton, if anyone is listening... LOL

packratmandy, the names very fitting, I just dont see the need to keep copies of everything. Admittingly, I have about 5 games I insist I keep a copy of but apart from that I think its a waste of space and resources.

just my 2 cents

I have plenty duplicate consoles (2 Saturn's, 2 Mega Drive's, 2 Dreamcasts, 2 NES's, 2 SNES's and 2 N64's - although, one's an NTSC N64) - I'm trying to get a cheap spare for all of my other consoles too, in the event of a breakdown.

Although, I don't seem to do the same for games.

The odds of a game dying are much less than a console, and this is especially true for newer CD/DVD based systems. Those motors are bound to die, but most can be repaired fairly easily as well. Unless you abuse it, the software should last a long tme, barring bitrot.

I dont keep doubles of anything in my collection. If I have any doubles I sell them on Ebay and then buy more stuff.

Two copies of Akumajo Dracula on the x68K (no complaining, it's a floppy game and all copies will die anyway), two copies of Rondo (one sealed), two copies of Samurai Spirits (one doesn't work), multiple copies of the same game across different platform, two copies of Phantasy Star IV and two of Phantasy Star: The End of the Millennium (same game).

...yep

Two Genesis 3 consoles, too. AGH. At one time I had two N64s, but I sold the acquired one to somebody who wanted one, pretty cheap.

I like to have a boxed mint console for display in my collection and some extras to play. I think that only the masterpieces (Shenmue, Zeldas...) deserve to be duplicated in a collection. I think that no one wants to have duplicated copies of 2600 E.T. LOL
It's safer to have a boxed copy separated from the copy you actually play.

I keep everything I can get a hold of!

I would keep unlimited copies of rare and above carts, but for everything else just put them on Ebay, give them away, or put them in a box and store them at someone elses house! :D

I throw everything in the basement and let it pile up! I need to organise very soon. I still have carts in the bubble envelopes from buying them off Ebay!

Thanks for the input..does make it a little easier to part with some stuff knowing most of you seem not to worried about having doubles

( .......she says as her knuckles turn white desperatly holding the 10 copies of SMB 3 as her husband prys them out of her trembling hands......)

I've started keeping a trade/giveaway pile, though admittedly mine is mainly Odyssey2 stuff, with a smattering of 2600, Intellivision and Colecovision stuff into the mix. Not really much of a pile at the moment. ;)

For my NES collection, I'll collect a boxed one, then try for the cart too. I'm only going after carts there, so if I have a boxed one, it's a bonus.

For everything else, I don't go for dupes. I don't want them. I have a few crappy ones I have to dump, but I don't really like dupes.

I just keep a box I put all my extras in to sell or trade later on down the road, I tend to have alot of extras, if I see something cheap, I will buy it, even if I already had one.

That's why i have 2 DC's, 2 PS1s's and 3 N64's. :o
