Yep, it's poll time again. Since I've been playing almost nothing but he Genesis GA games lately, I felt like inquiring what your favorite Axe is. I might have missed one or two here... or not (excluding PC versions, of course, as well as the Sega Smash Pack ports of the Genesis GA).

I dare not choose. The arcade one is best in many ways, and I've beaten the Genesis one rather recently (how often is it that I actually finish a game..?) but I don't know what I think about 2, 3, and the new remake, so I'd like to try those first. For the moment, my answer is the home version for being so readily playable :)

I have to admit that I haven't played a lot of these... but I gotta go with the original arcade version.

The Genesis version of Golden Axe 1 will always be my favorite. Many memories playing this at my cousin's house when I was younger... and constantly hearing "POWER UP!" in Toys R Us because of the Genesis kiosk they had set up.

The Genesis version of the original is my fave, followed closely by Revenge of Death Adder. RoDA was actually the first GA game I played... it was in Playland. :(

It's really really close between the Genesis and the arcade versions. I logged an awful lot of hours into the Genny version over the years.

I'm gonna go with the arcade original this time, though. It just edges out the Genesis, which is very near arcade-perfect.

I loved Golden Axe II but it was too short. And Golden Axe III was interesting but strayed too far from the formula that made the first two so much fun.

Wait a minute... there was no "POWER UP!" in Golden Axe. I was thinkin of Altered Beast. My bad.

But my answer's still the same. I have many fond memories of playing Golden Axe on my cousin's Genesis when I was younger.

I had to pick the Genny version of GA1. Sure, I miss the graphic touches that the arcade had, but I did enjoy the extras like the Duel Mode and extra stage(s).

I'll say the Genesis version, because really...that's the only Golden Axe I've ever played. Oh yeah...I played the PC version of it once along time ago.

I'm throwing in my vote for the Genesis original.

The best part about Golden Axe II was the fact that Tyris could actually kick a fair amount of ass. I've just logged way too many hours at Golden Axe I to not vote for it.

Golden Axe: The Revenge of Death Adder

I absolutely love this arcade game! It has great graphics, sound, and gameplay.

It's a shame that this was never ported to a console. The 32X or the 32XCD could have handled it. The Saturn probably could have givenit a graphical upgrade, and, for sure, a sound upgrade! A release on a Dreamcast Collection Disc would have been nice too. Maybe they'll release it in Sega Ages, or put it as a hidden game in some Sonic Collection.

Quick Thought: Why has there been no Golden Axe collection released? Sega should realize that it would have a major hit on it's hands if that as released. Or, at least give us a NEW game (No 2D one-on-one fighters please).

I voted the Comedy PC-Engine option due to the sheer awfulness of the game.

I've just spent too many hours w/ the Genesis version to vote for any other... Great, great game... and 2-player no less!

The first one for the Genesis. 2 - player mode is so much fun! Alot of memories playing that one as a kid. I have Sega Classics Collection for PS2 and have played a little bit of the remake but I prefer the look and play of the Genesis one myself.

The first Golden Axe on the Genesis. I haven't tried any other ones besides the Genesis sequel, which didn't really hold my interest for long.

Out of everything I've played, I love Golden Axe I from Genesis most. I've owned it since I was 4. XD My second-fave would be Golden Axe III.

My favorite Golden Axe is the Arcade Version.

The Golden Axe for Arcade is a classic.

But iŽd like the Genesis version and the remake for Playstation 2 too.

The merit of the Genesis version is the extra stage ( The Dungeon ) and the Overpower Death Adder.
His skin is green likes the Incredible Hulk and very powerful with devastators magics.

The merit of remake for PS 2 is the new enemies likes the man with spear, magicians and a minotaur ( one of the new bosses in the remake ).
His graphics are not the better for the system, but it is a good game.

The green dude on the last stage is actually Death Bringer. I used to think it was Death Adder too. XD I also used to think the blue dude in Beginners Mode was Death Adder, but it was actualy DA Junior!

But... Case being... Who's Junior's mom??? XD

Sega just announced last week at E3 that they're bringing back Golden Axe for PS3 and Xbox360! Hopefully this version will be much better than the GBA and PS2 versions.

But considering that they're planning a full revival of the franchise, and not a wimpy budget game, I'm sure Golden Axe will fare much better this time.

If not, that'll be quite depressing, as GA was considered one of the most important arcade games of its time, at least for Sega, and it would be a shame to destroy that.

Does anybody else remember the issue of EGM where they ripped on Golden Axe III in the international game previews?
