Favorite "Ryu" of fighting games

I always call the main character of fighting games the "Ryu," also referred to as the "Shoto" character. So, out of these popular fighter franchises, which hero is your fave? I gotta say Terry Bogard... the moves, the spirit, the justice, the style, the hat... okay, so he loses the hat in Mark of the Wolves, but his new design is pretty suave, IMO. Haohmaru would place in #2, as he's the perfect example of a samurai, with a well-balanced style, a bright personality, and THE HAIR! 8-)

Gotta go with Haomaru simply because the series is my fave. I've always like Hanzou from Worls heroes as well.

My favorite shotoclone is Ryo. Although obviosuly very insprired by Capcom's character, I find Ryo to be much more hard hitting. I love his "hurricane kick" much more than Ken or Ryu's, machne gun punch, and I still mark for that big ass fireball super of his. His only drawback? I never liked his dragon punch. It always felt very soft.

As for Terry, I cant classify him as a shoto. Classic shoto, IMO, has fireball-jumping anti-air with the same buttons (ie, Garou Terry has a P-fireball and a K-anti air...powerdunk). Toss in the Power Charger and Burn Knuckle, I think that gives him a totally different feel.

I picked Ryu from SF. He's still my main go-to-guy whenever I play.

I never could get into the SNK fighters as much as Capcom's, I've always felt that KoF/AoF was too stiff and slow for me. That's just the way I feel, not meaning to start a debate or anything.

I also dig Sol from Guilty Gear.

I chose Ryu. To those who dont know how it's really pronounced it's(Ree-Yoo)But said real fast. I chose him because he is the reason I got back into playing video games in the first place back in 1992. :D

I agree that Akuma could kick Ryu and Ken's ass any day of the week, but I couldn't add him. Maybe I'll start another poll on "Favorite Karate Guy"...

I picked Ryo...and I agree with you! It took me a hot second to get into the KoF series because it always felt too stiff in the early days. Around 97 or 98, I finally said "ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!" lol

Akuma sucks. He was only good in Super Turbo(being a broken ass boss character) and Alpha 3(due to his customs, but he still had some matchups that weren't good or even *coughdhalsim*). You play Akuma against me though, and I'll crush him and his wimpy defense.

Sol Badguy for me mostly for my love of the Guilty Gear series...and the sword is cool too.

And thanks to Kaine's comment, I want to play GGX2 now! I forgot to say that Sol Badguy would have been my third choice. The rough attitude, the hair, (though not as berserk as Haohmaru's) the well-balanced fighting skills, and the most important thing to him is "Sheer Heart Attack." He'd be my favorite Guilty Gear character ever if it weren't for Slayer. 8-)
