Ok, I was skimming the DP guide last night while having a leisurly sit on the can...as usual, and I decided to check up on the Arcadia 2001 system being that I didn't know much about it except I picked up Red Clash the other week for .99, because well....it was .99. lol

Anyways, I discovered that it's an R8! I was shocked to say the least...but getting to the point...I couldnt find any info stating WHY this was such a rare cart. Usually it's got something in there saying "This was only available through mail order" or "production ceased due to low system sales" or something...but nothing.

Anyone have any idea on why this is an R8? I used the search engine on here and found nothing also...btw. So any help would be greatly appreciated :D

I think it was a late release near the end of the Arcadia 2001 systems life. I think it is an arcade port. They don't turn up on ebay often but when they do I don' think they go for that much. $15-$20 maybe.

When I was visiting relatives in England back in 1982, I played Red Clash in a sea side arcade (BIG!). That was the only time I ever saw it. It was an arcade game, though.

Indeed it is. I've never personally seen the game in an arcade, but it is supported by MAME. It's one of the least impressive shooters from the early 80's, created by a small Japanese company called Kaneko. They later went on to make DJ Boy (starring Wolfman Jack!) and the cheap 'n cheesy Genesis fighting game Deadly Moves.

I also played Jump Bug there- wasn't that also on the Arcadia 2001?

Indeed it was. It doesn't seem to be especially well emulated in MESS, though... the colors are all screwy!

There were a lot of obscure arcade games for the Arcadia, licensed by game designers including Konami, Tecmo (then Tehkan), and Sunsoft (then Sun Corporation). With all that third party support you would think the console would have been more popular than it was.
