Man, these new stores are great! I've got some killer deals there this past week:

Suikoden $7
The Game Of Life $7
Koudelka $10 (almost paid $20 at EB)
Hydro Thunder (DC) $7
Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (DC) $20 (not a great price but I wanted it)

What kind of deals are other people here getting at these stores? That $7 Suikoden really blew me away. Every time I go into a Blockbuster GR store now, I keep expecting to see a Suikoden II or Tactics Ogre for $7.

What is a game rush store? They sound very interesting.

What is a game rush store? They sound very interesting.

Basically it's a Blockbuster version of the Hollywood Video "Game Crazy" stores. It's a store-within-a-store where people bring in their used games and systems and exchange them for other stuff. One GR store I was at even had NES and SNES games, so their selections can be pretty diverse.

What I like most about Game Rush is that their prices are totally different than the other used game stores (Suikoden was $30 and Life was $25 yesterday at my local Gamestop).

Game Rush is to Blockbuster as Game Crazy is to Hollywood Video.

Just small buy/sell/trade game store tacked onto existing Blockbusters.

I have not been to a Game Rush yet that did not have something.
The best deals I have found are Harvest Moon 64 $9.99, Secret
of Mana $6.99, and Intelligent Qube $9.99.
Their prices on Gameboy games are substantially lower than other places.
Also, their trade in values are a lot higher on some games. For example, I think they give you $15 credit for
Final Fantasy 1.

I just did a search for a game rush near me. The nearest one is 42 mins away. I might still go. Here is the link if you guys want to find one near you.

I certainly hope it's better than Gamecrazy. I went to check one out near local Hollywood video, and the prices were RIDICULOUS. I am *noy* going to pay more than $10 for a common game on a system that died ten years ago.

I'll have to check out this Game Rush thing. When did they start opening up?

Darn, looks like they're not on the West Coast. :(

If you don't have one near you, don't plan on seeing one ever. BB spent a shitload of money on these things and they aren't getting any kind of decent return off them, at all.

Not only that, but when it comes to the big PRP (pre-rented product) sales, game rush stores are excluded from them. Idiocy.

EDIT: But yeah, there are definitely some interesting items to be found. Saw a black Sega Sport's dreamcast the last time I was in.

This part I noticed, and it pisses me off. Why? BB used to be the #1 place for me to get used Next Gen games...I'd love the sales cause Id spend an ass load of money there...then all the stores went GR on me. So now, even though I have approximately 8 Block Busters within a decent distance of me...I still have no good deals.

Alll the ones here in SC are crappy too...I got one full of ass holes who dont take anything pre 64, I got others that take them...but know the value and sell higher than Gamestop! Its ridiculous. Ever since they turned into GR...they've lost my business, not because I'm an ignorant jerk who refuses to shop there...becuase they never have anything decently priced anymore.

Now, being in Jersey, I have none of these near me. But on the topic of used Next Gen games, this used to be an option, until they started (around here anyway) putting all their used games in these stupid third party cases with security bars in them. So, essentially, you're buying a used next gen game... loose! No f'ing way.

I noticed that the Game Rush stores are not included in the sales. Not a big deal to me, there's about 9 BB's within 10 miles of my house and only one has a Game rush in it. Still plenty of options for sales.

On another note I was in a Game rush yesterday and they had games for NES, SNES, Genesis, Gameboy, N64, DC, PS1 and Saturn.

I found this interesting because their trade policy originally stated they only accepted PS2, Xbox and Game Cube games. The PS1 and N64 were the last remnants of former rentals. I talked to an employee and he said they are now accepting in trade anything NES and up.

Hey Cmos, you're not looking hard enough, there are plenty of decent deals at the one on Wade Hampton Blvd. For instance, some finds of mine and a friend:

ps2 Contra: Shattered Soldier (complete, no sticers whatsoever): $2.99
ps2 Monster S-video cables: $9.99
ps2 Downhill Domination new: $16.99
GBA Sp Leather Pouch: $1.99 (same ones selling elsewhere for $15+)

There are deals to be had, you just have to look for them.

The GR in Easley is pretty good, too. I found Earthbound for $7.
But Contra:SS for $2.99??? Holy crap, I need to go check out the one on Wade Hampton Blvd then. And while on the subject of WH Blvd, have you been to the video game cavern? They usually have some really good stuff too. I found some boxed Atari 7800 games there last week.

Ah yes, another person from Upstate SC! Whoo! Yes, I've been a regular at the VGC since about this time last year when I discovered it. That Contra: SS deal was probably an exception rather than the case, however, as it was marked $5.99 (still a frigg'n great deal) and up at the register the guys says "oh, and we're doing $3 off all used games this week, so it came out to $2.99. Also check out Rhino games (across the street from VGC in the shopping center with Walmart), they're nothing spectacular but they have some decent stuff from time to time (although they're more along the lines of EB/Gamestop as pricing goes.

There's a Game Rush within walking distance of my house. :)

They have a pretty good selection... I didn't know they started taking NES games. I'll have to stop by there sometime tomorrow.

It's because blockbuster would have no way to distinguish between pre-rented games and trade in games... and rather than lose all that money on the free ones, they just said screw it and made it unavailable at GR stores.

On a side note, Perkar did find MVC2 for DC complete for $15. Not the greatest, but not a bad price at all.

I'm actually starting to wonder who the hell decides what to price these things. Earthbound for $7??? Last time I was in I saw Chrono Trigger for $40... and I assure you it wouldn't be that price at a store where no one knows what the crap the games are worth.

Both of the locations I've been in near Grand Valley State here in MI have been "upgraded" with Game Rush. I've found some neat deals, too.

Burnout (GC) - $16
Super Puzzle Fighter 2 (GBA, new) - $25

And my girlfriend found Columns and Ristar for Genesis for about $5 each. Yay.

One of the two I went in had NES stuff. Maybe I'll have to get a few odds and ends there.

It's official....I now HATE Blockbuster's Game Rush stores. Actually Block Buster period.

First of all before they changed over all the stores, they did something that made me mad, they stopped using regular game cases and putting used games in lockable block buster cases. Now, whenever I make a purchase there, I have to get online and buy official cases for my games! Ok, and to make it worse...most of the stores are too fucking stupid to realize that GAMECUBE CASES ARE LOCKABLE! THERES NO NEED TO CHANGE OUT THE CASE! Way to waste money.

This was overlookable though, since Id get good deals. I'd also find N64 games for 5.00, 4.00, 3.00...same with PSone games. It was ok, good deals were still all over.

Ok, then they changed the stores to game Rush stores...ALL my stores near me are Game Rush stores. Then they stopped having sales on the games. No more sales = no more good deals. No more Buy 2 get 1, no more 25% off...no more cheap next gen games. Id love going in there and making out like a bandit with 3 new games for the price of 1 anywhere else. This made me mad, but it was ok for a while cause game prices were still low, especially on there "retro" stuff.

Then the losses came in, too much money and not enough profit...what happens...all "retro" game prices get doubled and tripled. Where I bought a sealed Donkey Kong 64 for 9.99...now there 24.99. Also the cheaper next gen games get shafted too...no more 4.99 and 6.99 games....all are now 9.99 rarely, and most are 14.99 and up! On top of that I'd have to buy new cases for my next gen games, etc. etc.

Block Buster is full of it, they tried something new, lost on it, and the consumer suffers. I'll still shop there, in the past months Ive only bought Tomb Raider PS2 for 9.99 and something else...can't remember. But nothingg like I used to when they charged fair prices for used games in bastardized cases.

Oh well, Block Buster...you suck.

To be fair, not just BB sell them in those cases.

I bought a few Cube games at both Game Stop AND a new one at Kmart and they're still in the cases. They're like that at a few stores. And it's not all the time. Weirdly. I've learned to just live with it.

And you should too.

i work for a game rush blockbuster, and i have to say that the deals on rare games like harvest moon, super mario rpg legend of the five stars, suikoden and suikoden two, etc. are great for buyers but awful for those trading. i think right now we give a 1.50 for all those games, 50 cents for the snes game. still, sometimes (especially with 10 or 20 dollar ps2 games you'd buy at walmart or best buy) the trade in value is 25 dollars. it's funny because although the stores hire people who know something about games, the blockbuster execs and those folks in marketing are still clueless. that is why hardcore gamers find great deals. to the casual gamer (the person they are trying to get into their stores) the deals are on par with other stores- although that 10 dollar off a new game when you trade in a game is a great deal. whatever, i do work for blockbuster so take what i say with a grain of salt.

also, we do have 2 for 1 sales, and when someone asks i give them whatever cases they are looking for (xbox, ps2, gcube). the gcube games (as someone mentioned) are lockable already so most of the time they are in the original case. if you go into a blockbuster and the game rush guy is giving you a hard time about getting a ps2 or xbox case tell them to get one off the rental wall. most of the time the rental games have the original boxes.

the reason we lock the games is because people steal them, so although it may seem stupid to order these cases (especially for gcube games that already lock) any additional cost is worth it, because it makes the games harder to steal. trust me, i don't want to lock every game i get in trade.

super mario rpg legend of the five stars,

First of all, it's "Super Mario RPG: Legend Of The Seven Stars. Second, it's not rare. Sorry, had to correct that.

And yeah, those Blockbuster execs seem clueless. LOL

There are no Game Rush stores in Oregon, but from the cons I've heard about them, it's probably for the better.
PS2 games in Blockbuster cases? The money I save on one of those games will probably be spent buying replacement PS2 cases!

Why don't these stores just do what EB and Gamestop do and keep the discs behind the counter? (With exception, of course, to sealed games).

manicbleu
04-02-2004, 12:01 AM
yeah, but if i am talking about legend of the five stars then it is rare LOL

although it isn't a rare game, 50 cents is not a fair trade in price for the game, that's all i'm saying. also, 'bout the cases- just ask for them. yes, you may have to deal with some jerk who won't give you the case, but (as i suggested) you can at least make this guy feel like an idiot by asking him why he won't just change out the case with a rental case (most of which are ps2/xbox cases).

Well, I was just in a Game Rush store last Friday, March 26, and they had going a buy 2 get 1 free deal on all used games. Not sure where you got your information from. Maybe your store has a different policy, but I don't think Blockbusters are franchised out. I could be wrong.
