View Full Version : Square-Enix, I hate you.

Note to the fine folks at Square-Enix: Stop. I figured it was just the Christmas holiday season, but it still continues. I cannont fathom why you are still spending the money. It's illogical, it's annoying, and for the record I will never buy another one of your games....ever. That's right, your TV and print ads have officially driven me to the brink of sheer insnanity and now have had the opposite effect.

I must either watch every show in your target demographic or you are simply trying to mesmerize every 10 year old into your tired Final Fantasy series. Whenever I hear the words "I Know, I know," I immediately change the station. The rest of the words are unitelligable and the song is borderline infuriating at this point. During the Chritmas season, I was bombarded by ads for True Crime, Tony Hawk Underground, Max Payne, and your junk. I accepted it and nearly lived with it. It has now been a month and I still see the same stupid ad filled with misleading CG cinemas 10 times a day (and that's NOT an exaggeration). The other ads have stopped. Yours have not.

If this wasn't bad enough, your 4 page ads clog up my magazines and in the worst cases, even take over the cover. I'm not sure if you think that their is at least one person out there who may have escaped your evil grasp, but anyone who wanted your game in the first place has it. Magazines are done covering it and moving on to the next chapter, so why are you still blasting me?

I fully understand the rough market out there, filled with hundereds of games vying for consumer dollars. However, your game is Final Fantasy, a series that has been around for 15+ years. Anyone who knows about your RPG's knows there's a new game in the series. Mainstream America has never embraced RPG's and likely never will. Final Fantasy 7, arguably the most overly popular game in the entire series, sold billions of copies on about 3 advertisements total.

So Square-Enix, if you can see my point (and I think it's pretty obvious), your not going to sell anymore copies by bombarding the airwaves and discgracing my otherwise fine magazine covers. I can never again look at Yuna like I once did as her image now completely disgusts me. Her voice is nausitating, the song irratating, and that 30 second clip of an already horrific pop song is now simply too much to bear. I used to respect you, but I am now officially disowning you for not only this generation, but all of them to follow as well. Of course, a second sequel to Chrono Trigger may change my mind....

Do you remember when FF7 came out? Now *that* was a lot of ads, both television and print. I don't think their recent advertising has been anywhere near that level.

In any case, the games are still good, right? That's all that should matter, I would think.

a friend of mine worked at a local movie theater and got me the 35mm comercial they used to play in theaters before movies for FF7. If I remember correctly it was pretty impressive.

I haven't seen the FFx-2 comercial more then a few times, you must be the definition of their target audience.

There's an easy way around the TV ads. Do I what I do. Stop watching TV. there's no programming that's worth a damn anyway.

Gamereview god is just confused by his new-found overpowering feelings of lust for Yuna and her almost naked hottie pixelized girlfriends.

Roowr! Hang in ther buddy. I feel your pain.

You know you love that song. You're just confused. It's much more fun to listen to it while naked.

I see the commercials as games within themselves. In fact every past Final Fantasy commercial from 7 on up was a fun game. I'm sure some of you have played it and didn't even know it. It goes like this:

"Movie.....movie....movie..ooooo actual game screen.....movie...movie....WOW Another Game Shot...movie...end of commercial."

For Final Fantasy 7 and 8 I pretty much sang the advertising jingle for the Starz movie pack ("movies movies movies mooovies movies movies mooo..oo--oo vies..when I want movies I wanna buy Square")

Kidding aside if you watch any channel that's considered "mainstream" or "hip and trendy" you WILL be bombarded. The MTVs, Spike TV, Fuse, Comedy Central and I'm sure there are others usually show a lot of FF X-2 ads. Repeatedly. During the same block of the particular show you are watching.

One plus the song isn't too bad.

So, what I'm hearing is that FFX-2 is total ass. Even my brother thinks that actually making an FF game with direct continuity to a previous game is a stupid idea. Should I skip FFX-2? I am an FF fan, but I'm not keen on RPG's in general.

Here's my interpretation of FFX-2.

"What the hell?"

"Woah, fast battles"

"Shut up Rikku"

"This battle system would kick ass if I didn't have to dress them up"

"Do I really have to visit the same 12 locations again?"

"Woah, Vegnagun looks badass!"

"May as well finish it"

"Holy shit, that's the most badass thing I've ever seen in a videogame"

"..."

"..............................................."

"That game sucked."

Okay, this may make me VERY unpopular around here -- but hey, when was I ever popular? Not at any point in my life I can think off. :D

There, I said it. Mock me and move on allready people. We'll all entitled to our opinions. ;)

I was actually kind of turned off to any current FF after playing FF7(great game except i think the story was a little lame), with the exception of tactics which is awesome. now dont get me wrong, i have a great respect for the series and how its brought the rpg scene to many peoples attention but its getting milked more than a 5 uttered cow at a bestiality convention (yes i said it!) This annoying pop oriented charlies angels rip off of a commerial is a prime example of it. they are trying to market to the DOA beach volleyball crowd and its sad. Once a highly respected series is pimping its self out like $2 whore. i understand they are trying to recoop losses from the past few years but they are going the wrong way about it. :(

and one other thing, i sympathise with GamieReviewGod. every time i hear the "I Know, I know" part i just want grab all three of those pixelated sluts and yell "I know you need to shut the fuck up you stupid hoes!" :bad-words:

PS, no offense to the classy ladies off the forums *wink wink* ;)

It really wasn't a bad game, but it wasn't that good either. The battle system was pretty kick ass, and Vegnagun was one of the coolest things I've ever seen in a videogame. But, the end was blown hardcore, and the final boss wasn't even close to challenging. The ending was incredibly bland.

Color me disappointed.

Blech. I hate just about everything about Adult Swim. As far as "The Triple H Show"..... what the hell is it? Is it about wrestling? Because, as far as I'm concerned, pro-wrestling is the lowest of the low when it comes to shit programming.

Spike TV is the one that prompted me to vent. EVERY COMMERCIAL BREAK I got an ad Monday Night during RAW. Worse yet, FFX-2 was the sponsor for one of their PPV's a month or two ago. That's what started to set me off.

Spike TV is the worst culprit of ad saturation ever. I know that "whatever happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas." unless CSI is on the case. I also know that I should poor beer into a foam finger before a sporting event so I don't have to pay $7.50 at the beer tents (as it's "good finger").

Well, the only thing I watch on Spike TV's are TNG's, and then only once in a while (shrug). And I have'nt seen a video game comercial in months. Go figure.

Now I WANT to see this ad to see what everyone is complaing about.....

Bottom line: FF X-2 was a effort by Square to bring a RPG to women and also draw in die hard FF fans (like myself). And hope they enjoy it anyway (again, like myself). :D

It's the song sung by the girl impersonating Yuna at the beginning... some CG, some gameplay footage...

I don't like the song myself, so if I watched anything other than NFL Football, Survivor, and ESPN every once in a while I'd get pretty sick of it too.

Anyways, as for the game... I find that most of the people hacking on it never played it (or it's predecessor). No surprise there. It's not nearly as good as X (what is?), but it's "fun". Probably doesn't hurt that it's been such a slow year for RPGs...

Raedon

Little off topic, sense I didn't care for the game after 20 hours.

The Japanese intro for FF X-2 is completely different then the US version.

When I got a image of the JAP version I couldn't play for more then 5 minutes without loosing what menu did what so I don't know if anything else was different..

Who knows.. Maybe the JAP version was better and Square-Enix US just blew it off for quick money.

This also makes me wonder why they are even called the same game? I mean, if the intro FMV is completely different then the US then it IS NOT the same game and that is blindingly obvious right off the bat.

The last FF commercial I saw was for Crystal Chronicles, which managed to make it in before Lord of the Rings. That sort of thing might have looked impressive once, but now footage blown up on a giant screen like that just looks kind of ugly.

Prior to that, I remember the commercials for FF7, which were subdued and seemed to suggest that the product was a movie instead of a game.

I guess I just don't watch much TV.

hmm...I've never seen any of those commercials. I watch Spike TV from time to time, but only for the A-Team...and that's the only TV I ever watch - an hour every 3 weeks, maybe. TV does rather suck.

Worst commercial ever.

I never intended to buy that game, but if I did and I saw the commercial before I bought it, I wouldn't have bought it. It's that bad.

And for the TV haters, there's plenty of good television, it's called sports. If you don't like sports, you are a woman.

I'm halfway through X. I'll grant you I hadn't played it before, I hadn't had time. That does NOT make the gameplay or atmosphere in FFX-2 any less crappy.

As for SoulBlazer's comment about die hard Final Fantasy fans....I own every Final Fantasy game released state-side, and I'm only missing one or two of every SQUARE game released state side. I've also played through a few of their import offerings through the magic of emulation. I've been a fan of the Final Fantasy series since the NES days. If square could pull ANYONE in based on fanboyism alone, it should have been me, but they failed.

He calls people who don't like sports women, and that's fine, but I retort, and I have "pent up anger"? Fuck that. I was just trying to respond to his comment to stick up for those of us that don't find sports to be entertaining (personally, football especially puts me to sleep). I don't exactly see in what way I ruined what was "such a good discussion". If you're that offended by my statement, maybe your jock straps riding a bit too tight?
