Stumbled into this review from an issue of the long-dead FLUX magazine. I presume the review and screenshot are from the PC version (though I really don't know if that was released either), but this was listed as a PlayStation game.
Though you PSX fans might get a kick out of this.

Hmm, interesting. I wonder whether the Mac version was released? If so, I might want to try to hunt down a copy of the game.

This PC version...it is from 1995 (http://www.the-underdogs.org/game.php?id=531)? << Note: Underdogs link, might try to install stuff, and do check out SpyBot...thanks! I always thought Harlan Ellison's original short story was a bit dumb (but appropriate for the era, and it has been years since I read it...) but never tried this game out. Cyberdreams did seem to have some interesting stuff; I ran across Dark Seed looking through Underdogs a while back.

That's a hell of a title. I would love to have tried it just to say I have played it. Whoever game up with that title had to be high at the time.

EGM also had a brief "preview" blurb of it in one of their earlier issues. I already have it listed as a "Rumor Mill" title in the rarity list. :)

Hey ed, you may want to edit out that link. It started trying to install crap on my system and my popup blocker was going off the wall... and it reset my homepage.
Home of the Underdogs is well known for the intense amounts of crap it deals.

CRAP?????

I'm a MOD of the forum of that site and I've been there for SIX YEARS.
Yes, UD has had to have some pop-ups and other stuff to help to pay the bills -- you would'nt believe the ammount of tarfic that the site gets. But there is nothing harmfull on the site. The worse is just a couple pop ups.
As for the game -- it's great. Kind of dark, depressing, and not a good ending, but one of my favorite PC games.

(I've been trying to resist typing that since this thread began, but I finally gave in. Forgive me.)

Was I the only one who immediately thought of Neo in the beginning of The Matrix? "What good is a phone call, Mr. Anderson, if you cannot speak?" LOL
Anyway, seems like a scary game, mostly because of the computer. Bill Gates, what have ye spawned? :eek 2:

Ah I love a good point and click game.
I was going to get that game when It first came out... but in the end I never did get it, damn lack of "Funds"...

Hmm, check eBay religiously and you probably will see it one of these days.
As for HOTU and spyware: I will once again reiterate the need to use SpyBot to do some things like lock your homepage, silently block downloads, and generally keep your PC clean. HOTU's services are awesome, but sadly not money making, so it shouldn't be a surprise when stuff like that happens.

Heh, point and click. Slightly off-topic, but I picked up Maniac Mansion (NES) last week. After having heard much hype over the years, it's nice to know the game is as good as they say.
And it was only a measly five bucks! Can't beat that with a stick...
Okay, carry on. Sorry! :embarrassed:

Weird! I got that the other day to!
Only problem is it's the german version =P
Was only £1 though.

I'm afraid that I have to agree. As much as I've enjoyed the Underdogs site, their webpages are far too large and take far too long to download. The pop-ups are annoying (as all pop-ups are), and I do appreciate how much money it must cost to keep that site running, but everything is just too clunky and tedius. I usually end up leaving the site before I get anywhere.
Also, I've found it difficult to find console games on that site. I found some of their Sega CD games, but I can never remember how I found them. "Console Games" should be a clickable link alongside the main links.
As for that game, I wish I had the chance to see it; it looked pretty interesting.

i actually found out about this a few months ago quite by accident. a friend of mine was thinning out his comic book collection, and i asked him to give me some comic books he thought i might like. lo and behold, some of them happened to be a I HAVE NO MOUTH AND I MUST SCREAM miniseries comic book based on a short story, which was printed in the comic book. the story was pretty good, with lots of frank speech and mature themes. on the back cover of one comic was an ad for the game, with the psx logo in the corner. i hunted it down for a month or two, didn't find anything, and lost interest. good to know that a pc version came out, at least.

Popups? What are these?
If this ever came out for the PSX, I know I'd have to find it.

The game is on the HOTU site, as the link given eariler leads directly to. A fair bit of warning, though -- it does'nt run easily on modern computers. It DOES work (I've gotten it to run under Windows XP) but may need some tinkering. Check in the forums there if you need help. We have some real tech experts there. 8-)
The worst I've ever gotten at HOTU (with my pop up blocker installed) is a couple of those 'do you wish to install' thingies. I know site usage keeps increasing and fees keep rising, and donatings are falling. It takes a LOT of money to keep a site that uses bandwith like that up and running. Still, I'll talk to UD and see if there's anything else she can do to bring in enough money to keep the place running. I don't like to see anyone have a negative experience at one of my all time favoirite sites. Yes, I dare say I enjoy it over there even more then here. ;)

I thoroughly enjoyed this game, yeah the end was kinda lame (I think you manage to kill the computer that is toying with you all) but it was so damn long ago i can't really remember. What I do remember is being horribly confounded by the black girl's puzzles for days... weeks even.

This thread saddens me, I Have No Mouth is still one of my favorite games. And everyone spent most of this thread bitching about the Under Dogs.
Anyway, I'm bumping this incredibly old thread to report that I found my "I Have No Mouth" holographic mousepad that came packed with the game back when I bought it in middle school. I don't normally do PC swag, but I'd been wondering for awhile whatever happened to it. So finding it again is pretty awesome.
I also found a brown NES toaster with a copy of Mario/ Duck Hunt buried under some old photographs. But I threw it out. Brown is not a healthy color.

I've heard about this game and I've been keeping an eye out for it, I've read reviews and it's supposed to be pretty good. There's supposed to be multiple endings, for those that said the ending was bad I'm assuming you got the "bad" ending. I don't really know for sure as I haven't played it, maybe all of the endings are depressing.

i highly reccommend the short story the game is based off of. makes Skynet look like a whinny girly computer.

I wouldn't be surprised, depression is sort of the central theme of the game.

It's a rough game... but intriguing. I only made it about a quarter through the game but... oof. Deep and disturbing, but good.

It surprised me that everyone was thinking that the game didn't come out, since I saw it sitting on the software racks at my local Incredible Universe store back in the mid-'90s for the longest time. It had a really interesting cover, which is why it stuck in my mind. I saw it there on pretty much every visit, collecting dust, until the store went out of business and was bought out by Fry's Electronics.

I have played and beaten this game.....its not that great IMO as far as pnc games go. Its really easy to bone yourself and put yourself in a postion where you cannot go any further due to where you save.

As the Harlan Ellison store continues to sell this game for a rather exhorbitant price (http://harlanellison.com/herc.htm), it hasn't been available from HOTU for a while - though it's easy enough to find it elsewhere, I reckon, especially since it is now playable in ScummVM.
