Does Gameshark 2 Ver.2 work with the new PS2's?

I'm trying to work out a trade with someone who wants my Gameshark 2 ver. 2, but today he emails me saying that he heard it can't be used with the PS2 v9 (I assume v9 is the latest PS2 model). He said only Gamesharks Ver. 3 & up will only work on it. Does anyone know if this is true?

No it doesn't work and neither does the Action Replay 2.
Some new anti-piracy bios in the newer PS2 versions or something like that.

Thanks for the tip, Jon. I've read that there is a GS hardware reset trick (L1+L2+R1+R2+Select+Start) that you can do if your GS is having problems loading codes. That doesn't have anything to do with this, does it?

I don't think so.
But there is supposed to be a new GameShark coming out for the newer PS2's. I think next month.
