Ok, just got a Sega Master System from jonjandran..........I know nothing about these systems. Doing some research on the Internet, I have found a lot of very interesting games that were in only released in Europe, Australia, and Brazil that I would very much like to own. So my main question here is will these foreign games (PAL format I'm assuming?) work on my Master System?

Can't wait to get some more Master System games..........

Deja Vu. This was my first question on this forum. LOL

To answer you:
Yes, it seems that all SMS games were created equal. I was told from various sources that SMS games are pretty much universal, so import away! :)

Cool. I just started importing SMS games too. Recently found this batch via a Swedish contact. All complete for $7-10 apiece.

Ace of Aces
James Bond 007 the Duel
Robocop vs Terminator
Impossible Mission
Klax
Krustys Fun House
Sonic 2
Bank Panic (Card)
Asterix

Sadly, the dollar has deprechiated greatly against most foreign currencies in the past year so importing has become more expensive. So many fun PAL SMS titles though.

Question: Do PAL SMS games work in a US power base converter??

Good, I just won an auction for Ninja Gaiden, which I'm very interested in. I'm a big Ninja Gaiden fan, and I only recently found out that the Master System had an exclusice NG title not released for any other system. I'm also curious in the Sonic titles, the Mortal Kombat titles, Robocop vs. Terminator, and several more. I can't believe an 8-bit machine can handle all of these games.....

I've bought many titles from overseas sellers - the overseas games kick mucho ass over many of the games that were released stateside. And yes, Sonic runs just fine on the SMS (as well as Sonic 2). I've got some box scans and such on my website (I'm working on screenshots, etc, later).

Japanese games won't work in it. They probably would if they could fit into the cartridge slot, but....

You could make a converter, but it's probably too much trouble...

Yeah, not only is the cart smaller, the PCB is a bit smaller, and has fewer contacts as well. Also, a fair percentage of of the Mark III games still wouldn't work on a US system even if you DID have an adapter.

Want to find out more about some of these? I've got a few good reviews here: http://www.geocities.com/opcfg/importreview.html

Dire51, that's your site? I actually have been through that site quite a bit before! Great site with a lot of information on some very interesting imports! Your site is the reason I found out about most of those Master System games, especially Ninja Gaiden. I also enjoyed your top 100 games of all time ---- didn't agree with all of it, but there are quite a few games I want to try on there (including that Castlevania-esque game for the SMS, the name escapes me right now).

I was looking through the other thread, and what's a PBC? It looks like I would need one for those TecToy games.

Also, a question for Dire51......this has absolutely nothing to do with the topic at hand, but I figure you'll probably know the answer anyway. I just imported a PAL format copy of Parodius for the NES, and I can't figure out how to beat the second boss. A giant woman keeps walking across the screen, and I can get past her by flying the ship through her legs as she takes each step, but I can't figure out how to do any damage to her. How in the world do I get past this boss?

Thanks! Yeah, the OPCFG is my site... going on six years old now. :) Glad you like it!

Master Of Darkness is the Castlevania-esque game in question. I like it quite a bit, but it's pretty easy to finish. It's a nice, solid action game. I also recommend checking out Kenseiden as well.

PBC = Power Base Converter for the Genesis. That's actually what I'm running my SMS games on right now, and all of them - including my small collection of imports - work just fine.

Regarding the showgirl in Parodius - she can't be damaged. Just keep flying around her, and eventually she'll give up and leave you alone.
