Illusions of Gaia was my favorite SNES game

Can anyone recommend any games that are similar to this?

I am only interested in systems that were released in the USA

Hmmmmmm.....

Terranigma is by far one of the best... think it's the same kind of thing as Illusions of Gaia, but then I've only played Illusions of Gaia a few times :P

Soul Blazer, the direct prequel to IoG. Soul Blazer, while not graphically stunning, or revolutionary in gameplay, offers some of the most stunning rhetoric (Is that the word I'm looking for) and/or philosophy I have seen, in any game, on any system, ever. The translation is, not significantly, lacking, but the points that are being conveyed are, well, well conveyed. I don't know if they were the someone else's ideas, or solely of the designer of this game. Just... wow.

And yes, it's a very, very good game, gameplay wise.

Seiken Densetsu series

Sand_monkey said Terranigma... listen to him. It's actually the sequel to Illusion of Gaia, or so I'm told. Also, as pango said, the Seiken Densetsu series is similar to IoG's action. We better know Seiken Densetsu over here as Final Fantasy Adventure on the Game Boy, and I'm sure we're all familiar with SD2... Secret of Mana. SD3 never came to the states, although I hear it's quite good. It apparently has a job system not unlike Final Fantasy V.

The trilogy goes Soulblazer, Illusion of Time (Gaia) and Terranigma. Terranigma never had a US release (Enix had closed up shop by then). An English version does exist, but its PAL. Goes for quite a bit of money on ebay.

As far as other games, all the Seiken Densetsu recommendations are good. Final Fantasy Adventure/Sword of Mana (original/remake), Secret of Mana, Seiken 3 (fan-translated rom available), and Legend of Mana (PS1). Though it goes without saying, anything with Zelda in the title is good. You may also want to look for Y's III: Wanderer's from Y's.

I'll 2nd (or 3rd?) the Soul trilogy as well as the Mana/Sekien games. Quickly off-topic though can I ask how the Soul games are related to one another?

Oh man, I had all but forgot this game. What a blast, it's so classic.

Even though it's essentially beatable in a sitting, it's great fun.

thanks for the info

I guess I will go out tomorrow and buy secrets of mana

Soul Blazer and Secret of Mana are both awesome games IMO. I have a copy of Final Fantasy Adventure for GB, which as stated before is like Secret of Mana, if you want to buy or trade for it. Also you could try Secret of Evermore, which isn't as great as SoM, but still a fun game.

Nope, it's a LOT like Mana. You MIGHT like Brainlord too, but it's damned hard. I have a Jp Terranigma available if you're interested. Harder to play, but there's walkthroughs. The Jp one is rare as hell too.

I started to play Shinyaku Seiken Densetsu on my GBA, and really couldn't get into it so much. I also lost the GBA (with that game in there) and probably won't bother picking it up again.

Are the SFC/SNES games different/better than the recent GBA one?

I think Secret of Mana is a much better game than FF Adventure in all aspects. The gameplay is similiar but improved and the story is way better. And since I don't know Jap names, I'll assume I answered your question. LOL

Secret of Evermore for SNES is still one of my favorites. Gameplay exactly like Secret of Mana, similar to Illusion of Gia, but definately not a game for everyone, like may people before me have said, you either like SoE or hate it. I'm not sure how rare it is, but it goes for about $20.00 on ebay.
