Maybe this is my fault, seeing as I can't find an "OPEN" button on the console anywhere, but my Model 1 (front loading) Sega CD simply won't eject the Ecco game that's currently in it. I just got it today. HELP!

On the Sega CD title screen press either Start or Reset (I can't remember which).

after the Sega CD boots up to the Sega CD splash screen hit RESET the console will reboot and the tray will open.

Here is the clencher though. hit the START button on the game pad to close the tray. don't push on the tray itself to close it. This adds stress to the mechanics and will eventually cause the tray to fail.

Your Sega CD 1 seems to be acting like the buggy piece of junk mine was / is. Try making sure the connector and socket between the Sega CD / Genny are clean. Then if it doesn't power on, wiggle their connection slightly and try again. Eventually it works, at least in my experience. 'Course, don't expect it to remain stable enough not to crash during your game.

If you have a piggyback Sega CD you should see the following when you power up. The LED's on the front (power, load) will light up, and you will get the sega cd splash screen. If you don't get the led's on the front of the sega cd then check the power supply. If that doesn't work you need to clean the Genesis expantion port like it was a cart. These ports get dirty and will cause the unit to fail like you mention.

It works! Yes! Now I can play Sega CD games without the pain-in-the-ass Genesis Model 2 AC adapter plug...(My Model 2 Sega CD didn't come with the extra Genesis 1 parts)
