I'm thinking of buying either one of these. Either 29.99 for the Game.com which comes complete with 8 games. Or the Action Max, which I'll have to bid on...note I don't have a spare VCR for the Action Max so I will have to buy one. BTW, it comes with 3 games and original box

Action Max is really horrible, plus it isn't really a video game system. It's a gimmick. Game.com is no joy ride either but given the choice between these two evils there isn't really a choice at all.

Game.com

At least you can PRETEND to play decent games on the Game.com like Fighters Megamix.

(Begins wait for game.com supporter to chime in)

I've got a Game.com, but I'm definitely not going to defend it. Having said that though, take the Game.com over that piece of crap Action Max. Beware of Sonic Jam for Game.com though. That is one of the worst games I've ever played.

Wow...Action Max on eBay....or Game.com for $30...

Don't waste your money, don't waste your money. Start saving up for that Nintendo DS.

Action Max! C'mon guys, The Rescue Of Pops Ghostly is one of those games that is so incredibly bad, it's good. That game alone definitely beats out anything put out on the Game.com.

Eolsen, If you want to avoid ebay, I have a complete Action Max collection for sale. Comes with a boxed & complete system and all six videos.

Duh, you're right. I was thinking there was 5 videos + the pack-in Sonic Fury. Guess there are only 5 total.

Wow, what a decision. haha. Um. I would say game.com. Even though I think both are horrible. For some reason, in my opinion game.com is a little bit better

Only get one of these if you want something that is barely playable. I owned a Game.Com and I actually sold it because I thought it was so bad. The only game that was decent was Solitare (built-in) and everything else was just unbelievably bad. The touchscreen feature was barely used too.

As for the Action Max, I recently picked one up and I like it for it's entertainment value, although not for it's playability. The videos are funny, and I sat around and "played" through Sonic Fury once and have more on it's way. While it isn't a very good system, I like it.

If you're looking for something fun and playable for $30.00, you could go to your local GameStop, pick up a Dreamcast with NBA 2K1, NFL 2K1 and a few other great games for $30.00... Or a Genesis... or a lot of other stuff...

The only games that are really any good on the Game.com are the Wheel of Fortune games, the built-in solitaire, and other non-action games like Tiger Casino... I still can't believe they even released games like Indy 500 and Sonic Jam, those games are completely unplayable.

The Game.com is nifty just for shits and giggles (where else would you find a system with a touch screen?), but that's about it.

Yeah, I was quite impressed with that until my Palm Pilot came along...

Realized I had better games on it than in all of my Game.Com. That's what made my Game.Com bite the dust. In fact, my phone has better games than the Game.Com had, and it has some really bad games.

I usually think there is something good in every system, but as for the Game.Com... I don't know what that is.

I cannot say about the Action Max. However, DO NOT buy the Game.com. I received one of those for my birthday a few years ago. As others have stated, Solitaire was the best game and it was built in. Lights Out wasn't too bad either.

I sold the system because it was so terrible. And I'm one of those guys who actually enjoyed playing many of Color Dreams' underpar games. Heck, I even enjoyed playing Active Enterprises' Action 52. But these games were in a totally different league of crappyness.

what if it was r-zone vs. the studio II?

or CD-i vs the Pico?

i'm building a collection, a museum if you will so the question of "how much fun is console x" is not the only factor for me. there are a few consoles i wont collect for, not because they suck but because they dont meet my definition of console. the action max, the pico and that memorex thing are a few that come to mind.

The VIS. Though, there *may* have been some worthwhile games that were made or atleast in production. I gave ubersaurus (who is doing the list for the VIS I believe) a flyer from an older InterAction magazine that listed KQ5, Laura Bow: Dagger of Amon Ra, Space Quest 4, and one more were supposed to be released holiday 1992 and early 1993 by Sierra.

I'd go with the Studio II... at least it has the excuse that it's really old, and gets some retro appeal... the R-Zone was awful even when it was released. Of course, you can never look this cool playing a Studio II:

CD-i vs the Pico?

CD-i for sure... the Pico is far too kiddy for me (and I own a Gamecube). The CD-i may not have any good games, but at least they're games. Plus, the CD-i is actually a pretty sexy looking system (depending on which one you get I suppose... those handheld ones look pretty awesome).

Haha, no, no... it's just an image I found on the 'net using Google. The fact that the guy is trying to keep from laughing because he knows how silly he looks just epitomizes the R-Zone in my opinion.

Given the choice between the two systems, I would pick... hammering a roofing nail into my forehead. Loboto-licious!

It's an interesting thing that you bring up. Personally, I would count the Action Max as a system because it was meant for playing games and they were planning on making more and more. The Pico was meant as an educational tool, and not a specific game console.

If you're building a museum, I would say you should look for anything that was planned to be playable with multiple game titles. That would give you the "most complete" collection in my view.

well its only a museum in my mind, to most people its an out of control hobby

i think about this everytime i find an action max, which has happened at least 3 times, it looks like a game system all right... but really now. you need a VCR to generate the "graphics", theres no real player control over the action. i guess my main gripe is that it doesnt meet the basic standard that a console is game specific computer for your TV.

as for other marginal consoles, i do have a small CD-i collection, and as pathetic as it is they are games. i have an r-zone with 4 or 5 games and i'd like someday to get the tabletop model, i'm not sure i'd collect for it if sega wasnt represented on it. i traded fairly well to get my studio II, hooked it up once, snickered at the games and put it on display. dont get me started about the game.com, round these parts i'm known for defending it.

i've let lots of aquarius stuff pass thru my hands, even though it meets my standards on many levels, it just has an aura of suck around it. same deal on the pico, even though its a sega there was never any illusion that an adult could sit down and have a good time with it. tommy tutor, mmm found and traded one off and i kinda regret it, the odds of finding software for it were so remote though.

oh anyways what about these even more marginal systems-

coleco quiz wiz- in no way can you call this a video game dammit

arcadia projection gun game- the names good, it takes carts but...

game wizard- these are those LCD handhelds with interchangable screen carts, came out in i dunno power rangers and other themes

v-tech, leapfrog learning systems- if you collect the pico why not?

I probably wouldn't bother with any of those four...

Do NOT get Action Max, it's non-interactive, it just gives you points every time you pull the trigger and it doesn't even show up on the screen. :puke:
