Hi Everyone,

Saw a Pelican Universal VGA box at a game store this weekend. It can take component or s-video input and convert it to VGA (your computer monitor). I've found a number of these online..most run about 50$. Has anyone used one of these for their older consoles? Genesis, NES, SNES etc???? I guess you could even hook consoles with only RF (Atari) out if you ran it through an RF modulater and then into the VGA box (and then to the monitor). How's the video quality? I'm thinking there would be signall degradation on one side but on the other side the VGA monitor resolution is so high there might be a quality gain over my CRT Television....not sure..Anyone?

Thanks,

EW

I've had a chance to try a couple of these ~$50 universal boxes (no Pelican though) for free and I can say they all sucked big time.

The degration was bad at best and the bigger resolution made all those imperfections really visible. If you want to play any other console than Dreamcast on a monitor, go for the XRGB-2. It's $200 but it's worth it.

That's my two cents.

I also had tried and used one before, I think it was the pelican one. VGA suck so bad, it was the biggest piece of shit I have ever owned, waste of $45. I usually don't buy off brand stuff too often, this time was a definate mistake.

Just got one of these tonight...what's so bad about it? I haven't opened it yet, and I still have my receipt, so I need DETAILS about why it's so bad, people!
