SNK NeoGeo USA announces Xbox plans
SNK NeoGeo USA plans to release Xbox versions of at least two of its arcade games this year.
SNK NeoGeo USA today announced that it has joined Microsoft's Xbox third-party program and plans to release Xbox versions of both Metal Slug 3 and SVC Chaos: SNK vs. Capcom in North America this year. The company plans to develop Xbox games based on their other franchises in the future, and hopes to incorporate Xbox Live functionality, which has been confirmed for SVC Chaos: SNK vs. Capcom, into many of them.
"We're fortunate in that we have several titles with devoted fan bases," said Ben Herman, SNK NeoGeo USA Consumer Corporation president. "Xbox users are serious about their gaming experience and our titles fit the Xbox user perfectly."
We'll bring you more information on SNK NeoGeo USA's plans for the Xbox as soon as it becomes available.
Take THAT SONY! Of course most of the mainstream doesn't give two shits in a biscuit about this announcement, but it will just further the flocks of the hardcore defecting to the Xbox (see: Sega's supporters, etc.). I'm not being a fanboy about this, I'm just glad to see that SOMEONE is glad to have Metal Slug on their system....

Take "what", Sony? I've had Metal Slug 3 for the PS2 for quite some time now.

Yes, but as an import. SCEA, last I heard, were being pricks about letting it be released over here (where most Americans buy their games anyway). And I don't think anyone can honestly say that ps2's online setup is better than Live. Next time you hear Sony shot down the request of a third party publisher to put out a game that might be a little dated and or odd, remember Pryzm: Dark Unicorn or any number of other terrible truly awfully shitty shitty shitty games they allow by the truckload every year. Viva la resistance!

Nah. It wouldn't. Chaos sucks. I'd rather see Sam Sho V or a collection of old fatal fury games or something else come out on the box.

I've never played a MS game, but I hear that they're good. I'll probably pick the 3rd up just so my 'box gets some use.

,,!,, Sony! They're the ones that have been dragging their feet in regards to SNK for what, almost a YEAR about Slug 3? Their reasoning is that it's "old looking" and that people won't buy old 2D games unless there's a bunch of them in one collection. They wanted at least Slug 3 and 4 together before they'd consider releasing em. Well, guess what Sony...gamers WANT good 2D games! And they WILL buy them....and if they're on a good online system like the Xbox and LIVE compatible....$$$$$$! Duh. Huzzah for MS (never thought I'd say THAT!)!

Actually that is probably a good move by Sony. I never payed much attention to Metal Slug until I started reading about it on this board 2 years ago. I'm guessing most people have no idea about Neo Geo games. I'd be kinda hesitant to pay $50 for a short 2d game unless they had a few games on it.

This news is good, as long as the time schedule does not follow many of the other "quality games that will eventually come out" plan. Although this is great news for 2D fans(such as myself), Ill believe it when I see it on the shelf. I am so sick and tired of hearing about great games for the Box, I want to see them!(Origional Innovative non-ported titles that are Xbox exclusives) It is going to take alot more then ports of 2D games to generate momentum to go out and support the Xbox. Gosh their exclusives are thin, and their promises just keep comin....Dont get me wrong, the Xbox will have the goods delivered with quality titles...it just might be a couple of years! :D

Anyone who's been to an arcade, or hell, anywhere with a neo geo machine has heard of either bust-a-move, samurai shodown, or metal slug. Slug is SNK's biggest cash cow, and the hype they get is large and well deserved. I doubt it'll be a huge seller, but it'll sell. And if its anything like sony's original plan, it'll probably come out at 30 bucks or so anyway.

I'd seen Metal Slug and Samurai Shodown (in the same cabinet) around 1996, but I really didn't think much of it until more recently. I know very few people who know of the series outside of arcade fans.

I agree about the recognition of SNK. Although SNK promotes Metal Slug, KOF, and Samurai Showdown series a ton, SNK in general is very small and only hardcore gamers are gonna know what the heck you are talking about. SNK and the Neo Geo gaming line are only going to be known from a select group of people who are probably in their late 20's to mid 30's. As for arcade presence, I hate to tell you, but arcades are dead(and have been). You might live in a big city and have one or know of a run down joint that has a worn out Area 51 machine still runnin, but I live in a town of over 100,000 and we dont even have an arcade...just pizza joints and a skating rink that never fully removed it from their business. It is quite sad. The current generation of gamers are not of the Arcade world and what it had to offer to gaming....they are the generation that was brought up with consoles making all the games. Arcades to the current generation is like leftover meatloaf that has been in the sun for three days. Let's face it, if you are on this site, you are of a small distinct group of hardcore gamers...that may possibly stay this way!

BullSh%#! I asked 15 friends who are game players but not hardcore if they were exicited about SNK coming back to make games. None had any idea who the company was. They were all in their 20's and owned a genesis or SNES when they were younger. Two remembered samurai showdown but nobody had a clue what metal slug was about. People here are hardcore gamers! Selling a copy of metal slug to every member of the digitpress forum doesn't make any money.
