Thinking about getting it, but not sure exactly what it does or if it is necessary. I have a few SNES's and I am guesing they could use a cleaning.

Clean systems are always a good thing. Promotes long life.
$22.50? I need to get in the SNES system cleaner business. That's about 2.25x the MAX amount that I would pay. I've picked up most of my system cleaners for $2-5 at various goodwills, game stores, etc.

These are really quite unnecessary. Just get some Q-Tips.. Get the q-tips wet with rubbing alcohol and then wipe the cartridge edge connectors, both sides. Then wipe them dry. Repeat the process until the q-tips are coming off clean, not black. Then get a cartridge connector with alcohol still on it and stick it into the cartridge slot (while it is OFF and UNPLUGGED) and pull it out, put it back in, pull it out, repeat a few times, then wipe the cartridge dry, may want to do the same for the cart slot. Be very sure not to turn it back on when it's damp though.
That's what I do, anyway.

I'd certainly pass on that auction for the simple fact that the bidders are noobs and you're sure to pay way too much.

22.50! Noobs strike again. I find these cleaners all the time. Gamestop always has some.

It sounds good in theory until you consider the fact that you can get a SNES for less than $22.50.

These suckers, from what I can tell, just rub your cartridges with alcohol and a sponge. Basically the same thing as the q-tips and alcohol solution. The only reason Nintendo puts on the carts 'do not clean with alcohol', is so they can sell their own damn cleaning kits, which use ALCOHOL ;)

Not a straight Isopropyl alcohol, though. It's diluted some. We used to sell those cleaners at Funcoland, and the system cleaning cartridge was a dry one, no alcohol needed. IIRC, the cleaning liquid was pink in tint.

This is what I do also, and it works like a charm. I've bought a couple cleaning kits, and they are much more of a hassle then some q-tips and rubbing alcohol.

I use alcohol and a toothbrush for the systems, a non-abrasive white eraser for the games.

cool, thanks guys. you just saved me some cash. Guess I'll go the Q-tip and alcohol route.

heh heh. Flack has an interesting point.
Oh, and you may want to consider using a credit card as opposed to cotton swabs. Wrap a thin cloth that's damp with your cleaning solution around the credit card. I don't think I could fit a cotton swab in there... I haven't tried, yet.
