After the controversy between the Haitian-American coalition and GTA:VC, Rockstar has decided to edit out parts in one mission where someone says "Kill all the Haitians". I personally think this is being very generous...I wouldn't have done it. But they still aren't satisfied and want GTA to be stopped from being sold online and in stores. What a load.

Yeah it makes no damn sense. It is rated M so it is for us adults. What next, they are gonna force rated R movies to not have an slurs, sex, swearing etc! If a parent lets there minor childer play GTA then they should be shot!

It seems like it's going to be coming to that which is pretty sad. That is the reason why they made the rating system.

This has already been brought up -- kindof late to be doing any editing since there's already been like 6 million copies of the game sold. But then again, our buddy Liebrman is still frothing about part 3.

I don't get why freedom of speech can't be carried out in games!?!
I can go outside and say how much I hate black, jews, whites, italians, irish, etc. and teh law wouldnt do anything. Then a video game makes a small slur and they get in trouble. BULLCRAP!

There's a difference between saying I hate [insert 'race' here] and kill all the [insert 'race' here]. One is a statement which is protected, another could be deemed as a threat and isn't really protected.
Atleast it's being edited and put back on the shelves. Kakuto Chojin got yanked and never saw a second release AFAIK

Well, even threats of that sort would be protected speech in the United States (though the US is actually rare in the level of freedom of speech we have; Europe especially has quite strict restrictions on what one can say in public, especially when it comes to things like insulting ethnic groups). This isn't a legal issue, and no court could've *forced* Rockstar to make the edit. Rockstar made the edit because of public pressure and figured it was probably best to simply make the change and not have tons of groups boycott their games.
It seems sorta silly, though, doesn't it? It's like when the Italian-American groups used to protest the Godfather (and still do for the Sopranos). It's not as if GTA emphasizes the good nature of *any* ethnic group; white, black, asian or Haitian, they're all killing eachother in a big mafioso joke.
