Xenosaga stalls out?

I'm in the Gnosis tower section of the Cathedral Ship and everytime I try to go into the room after the save point (the room with the Magical Hat and Frame Repair Z) the game blacks out and freezes up on me. At first I just thought it was loading but nothing- no sounds from the game or the disc loading from the PS2 itself! Anyone else experience this or got any ideas what to do?

That happened to me once or twice but...

Does it always happen at the same spot? If so, you've got a bad disc.

For me it was a one time thing, I'd reset and be on my merry way from the last save point.

I know this isn't the same thing, but back when I was trying to solve the game, the game kept locking up on me when I went back into the EVS to get Decoder 16. I took the game back to EBgames, and I told them the game was defective. I tried out the new one they gave me, and sure enough, it locked up in the same exact spot. I then looked on gamefaqs and found out that people were experiencing the same bug.

So, I wouldn't take the game back just yet. Do some research and see if anyone else has encountered the same bug. It stopped me from completing a sidequest to make the ending easier, but I was still able to beat the last boss without it. I am sure there are other bugs in the game as well, so every game may have the same bug you have. Good luck finding info on it!!

Um, I can't continue my game with this bug, and this occurs on my stepfather's PS2 as well.

I've had various games do that to me. Just go back to the store, tell them about the problem, and they'll give you a different copy.

Well, I know my copy works fine for that area -- and mine is USED, also.

Try exchanging your copy for another one. Failing that, the PS2 may need a cleaning.

Crap, gotta buy new copy, mother used the receipt from FYE to return a cd of mine after Xmas. :(

You can try without the receipt. I haven't been asked for it ion the past. Worth a shot.

If that doesn't work, I hear Circuit City has Xenosaga for 10 bucks.

Tried exchanging it yesterday, FYE didn't have anymore Xenosaga in stock. :(
